Auto Car | 2011 Ford Harley Davidson F-150 | Harley-Davidson is the 14th edition of Ford’s F-150. Ford revealed today pictures of the 2011 Harley-Davidson F-150, which promises to offer plenty of goodies such as a new standard 6.2-liter V8 engine and many technology upgrades.

The standard 22-inch Euro flange forged wheels featuring a polished center wheel cap and low-profile performance tires complete the design. Ford tapped into a bit of its proud racing heritage to create the new 6.2-liter V8 gasoline engine, which uses big-bore architecture to produce impressive horsepower and torque. The new gasoline engine delivers 411 horsepower and 434 lb.-ft. of torque and provides improved maximum trailer towing capacity of 9,300 pounds.

According to Ford, this truck should remain genuine to enthusiasts of Harley-Davidson, customers who traditionally are as loyal to their motorcycles as F-150 owners are to their trucks.
The truck is available either with a 4×2 or an optional all-wheel drive, which features settings of 4×2, AWD and 4×4 high, unique to the Harley-Davidson edition on the F-150 platform. All 2010 Ford Harley-Davidson F-150 models will be SuperCrews.

Matt O’Leary, chief engineer said, “This truck builds on the legacy of toughness that’s been the hallmark of the Ford F-Series brand. Now we’re giving customers more of everything they love with the best F-150 and the boldest Harley-Davidson F-150 ever – featuring a fully differentiated design, all-wheel-drive capability, 22-inch wheels and a knock-out interior.”

Painted only in silver or black, the 2011 H-D F-150 wears a billet-style six-bar grille with headlamps trimmed in black. The body graphics are meant to evoke engine-turned aluminum and “speed scallops” on hot rods. The chunky, satin-finished wheels are sufficiently huge at 22 inches in diameter. Power-deployable running boards are once again included and a power sunroof has been made standard for 2011.

The Price of the 2011 Ford Harley-Davidson F-150 is not announced until Ford shows its full 2011 truck lineup in September. While design, creature comfort and packaging all play a role in differentiating one pickup model from another, perhaps nothing has more impact than powertrain.  And for 2011, Ford Motor Co. will complete update the engine and transmission options offered for its best-selling F-Series.

For the upcoming model-year, Ford will launch four new powertrains, including a compact, high-mileage V6, a pair of V8s and the newest member of its expanding, high-tech EcoBoost line-up.  Collectively, the maker claims the typical 2011 F-Series model will get about 20% better mileage than the 2010 pick-up line, despite big improvements in power, torque and towing capacity.

“Fuel economy,” explained Doug Scott, marketing manager for Ford’s Truck Group, “is building in importance with the consumer,” as much with pickups as with compact passenger cars.

Ford research shows that 70% of pickup buyers are demanding better fuel economy, and 32% say they are willing to switch brands to get higher mileage.

A major reason why Ford anticipates the big jump in 2011 F-Series fuel efficiency is the introduction of the all-new 3.7-liter V6, a four-valve DOHC package that will put out the type of numbers that only a V8 could match until recently.  It will make 300 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque, and handle up to 6,100 trailer loads – the best in its segment according to competitive data.
