Peugeot 608


Auto Car | Peugeot 608 | Peugeot is working on a replacement for the current 607. Peugeot will inspire the 608’s design from the 908RC concept car’s shown at 2006 Paris Auto Show. The frontal shape of the 908 should give you some ideas of the new Peugeot 608. The 608 will be developed from the Citroen C6 platform. It will debut at this year’s Paris Motor Show.


The 607 is suffering from a deficit of notoriety and also from a lack of top-of-the-range motorizations. The new top-of-the-range from the french carmaker will use a lengthened platform of 407 and should also have the same traveling trains.


The 608 will be slightly longer than the 607, but it will remain under the 5 m length bar. The design will be an evolution of the 607 following several themes presented in recent concept cars. The front design of the next 608 is not accurate but the side profile is representative of a subtle approximation to the 4-door coupe class pioneered by Mercedes in the CLS model.


The gasoline versions will be animated by a 2.2 engine with 16 valves and 163bhp and the V6 with 215bhp. A revised version of the 2.7 HDi V6 will also make an appearance but with power boosted above the current 200bhp as well as an all new petrol V6. You can also expect an AWD model. The diesel engines will be: a 2.2 HDI biturbo delivering 170 hp and a V6 HDI with an output of 207 hp. There is also a possibility that Peugeot will add a V8 engine under the hood of this car. The car will feature a six-speed automatic transmission.

And the Heart ("Coeur") perfectly symbolises the objective of this concept car: you'll fall in love and lose your heart to it.

Peugeot is proud of its long tradition of stunning coupes and convertibles, and, anchored in that history, this time the group brought attractiveness to the fore while dealing with a considerable technical challenge: to get a hard-top into the trunk of a coupe. In addition, when the was being conceived, the 206 was ready, and various technical constraints had to be integrated without altering the general shape of the new Peugeot model that was just about to be launched.

Rear-viewDuring the early 1990s, Peugeot decided not to directly replace the iconic Peugeot 205, citing the reason that superminis were no longer profitable or worthwhile. Instead, Peugeot followed a unique strategy and decided that its new, smaller, supermini, the Peugeot 106 (launched in 1991) would take sales from the lower end of the 205 range while the lowest models of the Peugeot 306 range, launched in 1993 to replace the Peugeot 309, would take sales from the top-end 205s. Between the 106 and 306, Peugeot hoped that the 205 would not need to be replaced, and could be phased out slowly, while customers who would normally plump for the 205 would continue to have a choice with either a smaller or larger car.

Unfortunately for Peugeot, this strategy did not work. With the 205 phased out, rival superminis like the Ford Fiesta and Volkswagen Polo and Opel Corsa continued to sell well and even increased in popularity,and without a direct competitor to these rivals Peugeot was losing sales fast.A new supermini was required, and the 206 was launched in 1998 as a somewhat belated replacement for the 205, with models being bought by a range a celebrities, from Karl Turner and Jamie Barton.

Although the 206 moniker indicates a direct continuation from the 205, some critics state that the car should have instead been badged 207. This is because Peugeot launched its latest generation of cars in the early to mid 1990s, with the 106 of 1991, the 306 of 1993 and the 406 of 1995.

Its eventual successor - the Peugeot 207 - was launched in 2006 but Peugeot announced its intention to keep the 206 in production until 2010. As of 2008, the ten-year-old 206 is Peugeot's best-selling car of all time, and its demise in 2010 will spell an end to the '06' generation of Peugeots after almost 20 years.

It was built in France and England until the end of 2006, when production was switched to Slovakia. The end of British production coincided with the closure of the Ryton plant which Peugeot had taken over when buying Chrysler's European division in 1979.

2000 Peugeot 607 Feline

Auto Car | 2000 Peugeot 607 Feline | First seen at the 2000 Geneva Autoshow, the big cat inspired Peugeot 607 Feline was designed at the La Garenne Design Centre.The 607 Feline is a 4.07 m long, 1.88 m wide, 1.19 m high wedge. The 2.58 m wheelbase allows extremely short overhangs which reinforce the car’s dynamic shape.

Usually concept cars are created to preview and perfect upcoming models. The 607 Feline didn’t follow this trend, since it was designed after the introduction of the 607.

The very latest technology is used in the form of a single-piece carbon fibre body structure, multiplex wiring and direction seeking headlights. This 607 is equipped with a 3.0 litre V6 (210bhp) petrol engine, radical double A-strut suspension, front rocking levers and a flexible cross-member at the rear, confirming that this is a unique and eminently drivable modern car.

Peugeot’s original brief for the 607 Feline was to concieve a luxurious, racy roadster with some design elements borrowed from the 607 sedan, such as the front end and the rear light cluster. All four wheels are pushed to the extreme corners of the Feline, possible for a one-off concept, but unfortunately unfeasible for most production cars.

This carbon fiber concept was introduced at Geneva in 2000.  Retro-innovations include doors that slide into the front fenders, much like the Kaiser Darrin, and direction seeking headlights, much like the Tucker Torpedo.

Its brutish beauty, will subdue you with its elegance and pizzazz. Feline is unique! It's a breathtaking study of proportions, design and engineering.You can't miss the beauty of its piercing look, or its sporty overtones and, even less, its technological and styling innovations. In its confirmation of the modernity of the 607, the Feline symbolises the pride of a manufacturer and of an entire team.

Peugeot City Toy

Auto Car | Peugeot City Toy | All projects are based on a study theme. In this case, the initial request was urban mobility. But the enthusiastic staff at the Peugeot Style Centre also wanted to celebrate the year 2000. When they were little kids, they all had visions of flying cars!
The Y2K changeover occurred without any bugs arising: cars still have four wheels!

The oddest of all "City Toyz" must be this E-doll. It's a sort of revival of the scooter or bubble car of the early 1950s. Like the Bobslid it carries three people, but this time next to each other, where the driver sits in the middle.
It has no side doors and the windscreen runs from the front all the way over to the rear of the car. The car is powered by two electric motors and measures 2.5 x 1.54 x 1.29 metres (length x width x height). The bubble-like passengers compartment is part of the self-supporting carbon-fiber body which also carries the batteries.

The driver operates E-doll with scooter-like handlebars incorporating a starter, twist-grip "gas" and brake controls and a twin-dial instrument panel. In the rear the chassis incorporates a trolley (here filled with colored balls) for shopping purposes.

The rear axle has two transverse control arms. To each of these control arms an electric motor straight out of the Peugeot Electric Scooter is attached, which drives the rear wheel by a belt. The two complete drive units are separated from the body and have a silver colored casing. In front here are two triangulated half-axles of a pseudo McPherson type.
It's a funny but unrealistic car; still, incorporating a shopping trolley in a car is a good and practical idea. I wonder if we'll see that in the future on production cars.

A sporty and good looking City Toy is the Kart-up. It's a 2-seater roadster with a very large, very horizontal windscreen that's almost like a roof and opens with the bonnet in a forward direction. Power comes from a standard Peugeot V6 producing 210 hp and the Kart-up has a self-supporting carbon-fiber body.
The Kart-up measures a modest 3.28 x 1.52 x 1.08 metres (length x width x height). This light and arrow-like car must be very quick and exciting with its 210 hp engine, especially considering the low seating position.

2002 Peugeot H2O Concept

H2O produces electricity and water using fuel cell battery technology. Hidden underneath the playful and dynamic appearance of a fire engine lies a very innovative propulsion method. H2O, built on a Partner Electric base, uses the fuel cell battery as a source of on-board energy and features a major innovation for this technology: the hydrogen is produced in real time, based on the system's needs, which means it can overcome the problems associated with storing pressurized hydrogen.

With its generously proportioned air intake, feline-shaped lights and plunging muzzle-like bonnet, the front of the vehicle is strongly identified with the Lion. The rear is reserved for the tank and a telescopic ladder. At the bottom of the rear end panel, instead of the exhaust (no longer needed) there are two connections for the water feed or the branch pipe. Naturally, the colour is "fire engine red", reflected in the interior with nicely matching touches of metal.

The cabin is designed for 2 firemen and to hold modern command and operating equipment, such as GPS, telephone and a touch screen on the dashboard. A second screen is linked to a PC and shows the map of the buildings. The H2O was a radical concept from Peugeot, it was their vision of a futurist fire prevention vehicle. 2003 Peugeot Hoggar Concept

The Hoggar is a top-end 4-wheel drive vehicle consisting of a self-supporting carbon bodyshell reinforced with two lengthwise stainless steel roll bars. First and foremost, the Hoggar is a two-seater open-top vehicle. Consequently, this concept car does not have either a roof or side windows: the cabin is largely open, without a roof panel.

The Hoggar has two powerplants with a sequential gearbox controlled using a lever or controls fitted to the steering wheel. The vehicle is however capable of running on just one of its two motors. Everything is interlinked electronically: there is no mechanical link between the front and rear.

The Hoggar, which was designed to cross extreme obstacles, has highly-developed suspension for this purpose, incorporating 2 shock-absorbers per wheel.

The vehicle's restrained interior combines technology and elegance. In an environment which mixes the refinement of brown leather and aluminium, the Hoggar seats 2 people, who can use the hi-tech equipment via a central console with a touch screen.

2005 Peugeot 20Cup Turbocharged 4 Cylinder Petrol Engine

Auto Car | 2005 Peugeot 20Cup Turbocharged 4 Cylinder Petrol Engine | Expressing Peugeot’s new alignment with sport, the 20Cup is an innovative concept, both fun and dynamic: suggesting an elegant synthesis between two worlds – that of the motor car by its front aspect and that of the motorcycle by its single rear wheel. This sporty, three-wheel roadster, shown in two examples, differentiated only by colour, promises real driving pleasure through the strong sensations it evokes.

Confirming its presence in high-level motor sport, Peugeot recently announced its new commitment to competition via the LMES Championship*. The 20Cup, in a more conventional form but drawing much of its inspiration from the saloon vehicle, will give Peugeot the basis for the development of a strong presence on the racing circuit.

Prefiguring the stylistic characteristics of a future model through its front aspect, the 20Cup announces a Peugeot style that is even more incisive and feline. Radical by dint of its low ride height and engineering solutions taken from the world of motor sport, this concept car is built around a one-piece carbon chassis incorporating a separate two-seater cockpit located at road level. The very low assembly and front transverse power train are designed to load the front axle and lower the centre of gravity as much as possible.
The single-arm rear axle, virtually load-free, is used only to steer this vehicle, which weighs less than 500 kg and is centred on the front axle for extremely efficient road holding.

Built aerodynamically, the 20Cup presents a generous front-mounted air intake, with air evacuated laterally ahead of the front wheels. On the lower body sides, profiles serve as an aerodynamic diffuser to promote maximum bearing on the front axle. A new engine, the fruit of cooperation between the PSA Peugeot Citroën and BMW Group, is introduced by Peugeot for the first time at the prototype stage on this concept car: this turbo-charged 4-cylinder petrol engine with direct injection has sixteen valves and two overhead camshafts and is packed with ultra-modern technical features. On this version it develops a maximum power of 125 kW (more than 170 bhp for less than 500 kg!) and a maximum torque of 240 Nm. The sequential 6-speed manual gearbox has synchronizer dog teeth and is controlled by means of paddles under the steering wheel.

For this high-performance vehicle, the front suspension is the dual wishbone type, with drop links and an adjustable anti-roll bar. The rear wheel is held by a single arm with a spring/damper assembly, equipped with a rocker arm to ensure variable flexibility. Of the three 18” alloy wheels, the one at the rear is the cage type with two removable wheel bodies.The front tyres are 210/65 R18s and the rear tyre is a 377/71 R18.

This two-seater car features rack and pinion steering and a multifunction steering wheel. It houses the control paddles of the piloted gearbox and, in its centre, a touch screen displaying a virtual readable image that remains horizontal regardless of the position of the steering wheel.This screen whose image is computed according to the steering wheel angle allows the driver for example to switch on the headlamps and can provide driving assistance during sporty use by showing transverse as well as longitudinal acceleration … It also contains all of the car’s operating indicators. The metallic black or opaque white body also has direct carbon surfaces and, on each side, an ‘historic’ lion’s head that follows the curve of the front wing. A central red strip decorates the car’s body lengthwise.

2020 Peugeot Style Center Concept Car

Auto Car | 2020 Peugeot Style Center Concept Car | For the third edition of the Peugeot Design Competition, enthusiasts of automotive styling from all over the world were invited to design the Peugeot of their dreams for the near future.

After the future of 2020 and retro-futurism, participants this year were asked to express their
vision of the Peugeot they would like to drive.
But it is at the Frankfurt Motor Show that the competition’s most emblematic prize is unveiled on the Marque’s stand, in the form of a scale 1 concept car, built in accordance with the winning project. Not forgetting a new feature of this third edition: the mass production of the winning project in the form of a… 1/43 scale miniature.

This now traditional event offered by Peugeot to the community of designers has met with real success and last year set a new record for the number of entries it attracted. Indeed, with 3,800 projects registered on the number of entries was up by 36 % compared to the 2002 event.The competition also confirmed its international credentials with 2,600 designers from 107 countries, against 90 for the previous edition.

The Moovie was built under the supervision of the Peugeot Style Centre, according to criteria normally used for the construction of vehicles intended for a Motor Show. Three months’ work was required, from the digitization phase to the final model exhibited at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

In the absence of three-dimensional drawings, it was necessary to give proportions to this project, for the exterior and interior, that conformed to the general idea mooted by André Costa.Digitization of the vehicle as a whole and its component parts made it possible to obtain a precise 3D image of the Moovie. This phase was essential, making it possible to determine the car’s reference data – length, width and height, as well as its architecture. Using this data,a 1/5 scale reference model was produced, giving body to this virtual reality.

Production starts with the machining of a scale 1 model. This high-density foam model is produced on the basis of digital specifications. Its purpose is to give substance to the volumes and allow necessary adjustments to curves and radii, to give the body a curvier finish.

The physical medium allows the production of resin moulds. The six moulds needed to produce the body are then assembled and lined with epoxy resin. Used in the mass production of cars,this 3 mm thick resin has mechanical properties guaranteeing excellent rigidity.

At the same time, parts such as the headlights, seats and fascia panel are also moulded.The sidelights and headlamps use polycarbonate, while the casing relies on the technique of nylon sintering. The colour of the parts is obtained by plexiglass cut from a solid block.

The seats consist of two epoxy half-shells assembled on a steel chassis. The fascina panel is made of high-density foam, milled from a solid block.The different body parts are then assembled. This stage is the longest, since it necessitates a high level of precision: parts are lightly reworked, certain assembly procedures are modified. The generous glazed surface area of the Moovie is made of polycarbonate.

Before being installed on the body, this thermoformed part is adjusted with meticulous attention to detail.

The paint is applied in two stages.

A polyurethane primer thinned with water is applied first, allowing final corrections to be made to the body. Three different paint pigments are then applied, the final aspect being given by the varnish: brilliant for the body, soft for the interior.

The bright, elegantly styled passenger compartment generates a feeling of well-being. The plunging front windscreen and generous polycarbonate glazed surface area ensure a high level of brightness in the passenger compartment whilst accentuating the sense of space. The lines are soft, in perfect harmony with the two yellow pigments used for the interior. The two-tone fascia panel with its smooth lines is mounted on a slightly curved central pillar. Free of all rough edges, it houses an instrument panel consisting of two tonneau-shaped counters and a single-spoke steering wheel. The two one-piece seats incorporate an on-board seat belt.
