2005 Mazda RX-8 SHINKA Special Edition

Auto Car | 2005 Mazda RX-8 SHINKA Special Edition | Coinciding with the opening of the 2005 Chicago Auto Show, Mazda today announced its RX-8 “SHINKA” Special Edition is now available at local Mazda dealers. The Mazda RX-8 “SHINKA” Special Edition takes its name from the Japanese word meaning “evolution” or “transformation,” and adds design style and performance to the highly successful sportscar. Only 2,150 “SHINKA” Special Edition cars will be produced.

“We’ve taken the RX-8 – a car already lauded by customers and media alike – to a new level of sophistication and exclusivity with the ‘SHINKA’ Special Edition,” said Weldon Munsey, RX-8 vehicle line manager for Mazda North American Operations (MNAO). “Improved ride and handling capabilities, along with interior and exterior refinements, make the ‘SHINKA’ Special Edition the ultimate RX-8.”

The Mazda RX-8 “SHINKA” will be available with either a six-speed manual or four-speed Sport A/T automatic transmission, featuring Formula One-style steering-wheel-mounted paddles for manual gear shifting. Manual transmission-equipped cars are fitted with a 238-horsepower engine that spins to a heady 9000 rpm, while Sport A/T-equipped cars are powered by a 198-horsepower engine tuned specifically to take advantage of the automatic’s gear ratios.

To further enhance driving performance and ride comfort, the RX-8 “SHINKA” features a uniquely tuned suspension system, upgraded from the standard car. The system offers a foam urethane filled front suspension cross member and specially tuned dampers, while achieving improved body rigidity through reinforcing the top-front portion of the A-pillars and improving the stability of the rear damper mounting points.

The distinctiveness of the RX-8 “SHINKA” extends to both the exterior and interior appointments of the vehicle. The car is offered only in a rich Black Cherry body color offset by a soft Parchment Tan leather interior. Among the exclusive exterior enhancements are semi-gloss bezels for the headlamps and rear combination lamps, as well as dark-silver gloss aluminum wheels. Also standard on the RX-8 “SHINKA” is a 300-watt Bose® sound system with in-dash six-disc CD changer. While many Mazda vehicles are pre-wired for SIRIUS® satellite radio, “SHINKA” models will be the first to be equipped as standard, as all cars will include a one-year subscription to SIRIUS.

2005 Mazda Sassou Concept

Auto Car | 2005 Mazda Sassou Concept | The future of Mazda’s global B-car plans lies in the Sassou concept, a sharp-looking wedge of fiberglass and luminous blue paint from the Japanese outpost of the Ford empire. The concept is a teensy three-door hatchback with a direct-injection 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine and a minimalist interior with front seats mounted on aircraft-style jacks instead of seat rails. Translucent plastic defines some of the Sassou’s design and interior; panel hide the front and rear lamps, which only become visible once the car is unlocked with a USB key that also can carry the driver’s music choices, mapping information and personal data. The Sassou can be reconfigured into a three- or four-seater by a cleverly changeable back seat.

Mazda’s latest show car is a lightweight, urban vehicle for young, first time car buyers that makes everyday city driving fun, highly practical, economical and aiming for clean emissions. A sleek, three-door hatchback, it employs evolved Zoom-Zoom exterior design language with youthful lightness and unique hidden features.

Designed at Mazda’s design center in Frankfurt, Germany, Mazda SASSOU is the first design concept derived from a unique approach to show cars for Mazda Motor Corporation this year. Besides the Frankfurt Motor Show, the Tokyo Motor Show and the 2006 North American International Automobile Show will also feature a Mazda design concept created at each regional design center.

The name “SASSOU” is a Japanese term that means having a positive state of mind, of looking ahead with optimism to the future. And with a lightweight , compact and stylish exterior, Mazda SASSOU certainly embodies this. It is an advanced interpretation of Mazda stylishness that employs the latest in aerodynamic techniques that visually hints at the agility and fun-to-drive attributes so typical of the brand. It mixes these with a unique use of exterior and interior materials and hidden features based on the “Shoji” principle. Shoji screens are thin Japanese doors made of ricepaper that allow you to see the outline of what is behind without seeing the details. The Mazda SASSOU concept has attributes that are hidden within the body and are suddenly revealed by an illumination system that makes the car seem to spring to life in a way that is appealing and surprising.

On the inside is a high-tech, interactive interior concept reflecting the lifestyle of young people. It uses a USB stick as a key and an interface port for programming the hard disc drive conceived for the concept. It also features a unique “morphing” back seating system that uses compressed air. This provides center seating for one, side seating for two by changing the seat configuration. It also has “flat-fold” seating which offers storage practicality for carrying larger items.

Combined with aerodynamic techniques to lower drag, the Mazda SASSOU design concept indicates the potential of the Mazda B-car to meet strict European CO2 regulations in the future. Mounted with a three cylinder 1.0-liter DISI turbo gasoline engine and idling stop feature that automatically shut down the engine to prevent idling, it is conceived as a lightweight, fuel-efficient, urban vehicle for young, first car buyers that can make city driving zoom-zoom, fun and highly practical.

2005 Mazda SENKU Concept

Auto Car | 2005 Mazda SENKU Concept | Mazda will exhibit more than 20 vehicles at the 2005 Tokyo Motor Show, commencing on the 19th of October, with the showstopper being a newly developed concept car, the SENKU, making its world-wide debut. Powered by a rotary engine (RE), one of the Mazda's most powerful marketing tools, the SENKU is not unlike a future version of the RX-8, with seating for four and an unorthodox door assembly. Mazda says the SENKU is a concept car that reflects a new direction for 4-seater rotary sports cars designed with mature drivers in mind.

The concept clearly demonstrates how Mazda continues to offer new and unique performance driving qualities in the face of increasing environmental and safety requirements and diversifying customer demands posed by societal changes. Its overarching design concept is "sharpness and mellowness," according to Mazda, and these contradictory factors are cleverly integrated to create a next generation design standard. The features include an ultra long wheelbase, minimal overhangs, a unique “floating” appearance supported by large wheels, a smoothly dignified shape devoid of all ornamentation, and large "flying wing" electric powered sliding doors.

Mazda asserts that these elements come together in a revolutionary coupe form that is both dynamic and supremely elegant, while in the cabin, personal space was designed to give priority to the people seated in the front seats, and interior trim was executed in supple, high quality leather. The name 'Senku' is a Japanese term meaning “pioneer”, depicting Mazda's spirit of pursuing unique and exciting ventures - such as the rotary engine. Located between the front and rear axles is the next generation '13B DI' direct injection gasoline rotary engine with a hybrid unit. The 1.3-litre rotary engine utilises twin rotors (each expected to be of the typical 653cc capacity) in combination with an electric motor to generate its power.

The Japanese company says that the direct injection rotary engine hybrid achieves high power output and low fuel consumption along with the ideal 50:50 front:rear weight distribution and a low center of gravity, now a trademark of Mazda sports cars, which help to provide fun and dynamic driving. In addition to highlighting the possibilities of a hybrid rotary engine powertrain, the new SENKU concept also provides clues as to the design direction in which the company will take in the future, evolving its current design DNA.

Further to the hybrid/petrol rotary engine variants on offer, and proof that the Wankel engine is well and truly entrenched at Mazda, the Japanese car maker will showcase a hydrogen powered version of its rotary engine, fitted to models such as the RX-8 and Premacy.

The Mazda Premacy Hydrogen RE Hybrid concept features a hybrid power unit that combines a dual-fuel, hydrogen/gasoline rotary engine with an electric motor. The power unit is transversely mounted at the front in a front-wheel drive layout, with the company saying the development team aimed to produce a vehicle with outstanding driving and environmental performance along with a comfortable, roomy interior.

Mazda says the sporty RX-8 equipped with the hydrogen RE engine is viable for practical uses, with plans for commercial leasing in the future, which bodes well for the future of performance-based hydrogen vehicles, and puts it in step with Honda and others who are already leasing hydrogen powered cars in some countries.

The MZR 2.3-litre DISI turbo engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission ti deliver high fuel efficiency and low emissions, along with spirited performance, which Mazda says is far beyond the norm for a minivan.

First seen at the 2005 NAIAS in Detroit, the Mazda MX-Crossport concept will make its Japanese debut at the 39th Tokyo Motor Show alongside the SENKU concept as well. Click here for the full report on the MX-Crossport's features and capabilities. The company claims the Mazda MX-Crossport indicates a direction that it's future products could take as it further expands its lineup of new generation products. The MX-Crossport concept is rumoured to form the basis for a new luxury/sports SUV to rival vehicles such as the Subaru B9 Tribeca.

2006 Mazda Kabura Concept

Auto Car | 2006 Mazda Kabura Concept | At the Detroit Motor Show in 2006 Mazda revealed a new concept car called Kabura. Kabura or Kaburaya, meaning the sound an arrow makes when it is fired from a bow to signal to begin a war, is smaller than the Rx8 but the compact RWD platform is build as a true drivers car. This car utilizers parts from both the new Mx5 roadster and rx8. The rx8 style fenders create a futuristic, post-modern feeling that both the FDrx7 and the Rx8 both maintain. Mazda has invested heavily into this concept and has wants to produce a car that will be both have revolutionary styling and performance.

Mazda claims that its goals for such a car are;

- to deliver Mazda driving enthusiasts another car that maintains the "Soul of a Sportscar" with breathtaking performance and handling.

- to deliver a car that is able to be used with youthful and active lifestyles. A car that maintains a flexibility and is able to be used daily. I sometimes think that the FDrx7 skips this goal, its a great sports car but isn't has many limitations as a practical car.

- to deliver a car that is affordable for a younger generation who cant quite afford an rx8.

Unfortunately, there has been little information released about this car. There has been much speculation to what engine the Kabura will be powered by. The 2.0-litre version of Mazda's highly respected MZR twin camshaft 16-valve engine is highly likely but true Mazda enthusiasts believe a rotary engine should be used. Mazda America is pushing hard for a rotary engine as it believes this is what defines a true Mazda.

I would like to see a rotary powered Kubura. I really think that not putting in a rotary engine would take away much of the excitement of the car. If Mazda really wants to produce a car that maintains the "Soul of a Sportscar" it needs a high revving rotary engine. A nicely tuned naturally aspirated engine would be the only rotary engine that should be used.

Well with the arrival and sales of the new GTR, and talk of Honda realeasing a new NSX, there has been much interest in a new RX7. I would really like to see a new Rx7 which delivers a revolutionary styling and concept, and hopeful set a new benchmark, as the FD did in 1992. Even now, the FD has lines and interesting curves that give the car a almost post-modern feel when in its presence. In my opinion many cars have yet caught up with this modern styling.

Mazda has not announced anything about a new Rx7, but with the previous models being so popular coupled with the release of the new GTR/NSX, Mazda will probably look at creating a car to compete with these major players as it has done in the past.

I would personally like to see a car created that utilises another form of energy to give its power. I feel if Mazda want to build a truely unique sports car, a gas guzzling twin turbo shouldnt be used. The new GTR, while quick, i feel that the engine just reuses old technology and brings nothing truely new. In an effort to compete with European markets, it has built a European style car, with somewhat bland looks. Nothing really amazing. I hope that Mazda will be able to change this, and bring once again, some of the excitement that Japanese cars had in the past. Keeping it rotary of course!

2006 Mazda MX-5 Limited

Auto Car | 2006 Mazda MX-5 Limited | Only 3,500 3rd Generation Limited cars will be available globally – each delineated by a numbered plate on the transmission tunnel – ensuring they’ll be in short supply and moving fast off of dealers’ lots.

The exclusive color for the MX-5 3rd Generation Limited is Velocity Red Mica. Front and rear bumpers feature the same distinctive red color, while the front bumper grille, A-pillar, outer door handle, head lamp bezel and foglamp cover all boast unique, silver trim. In addition, and to make the car stand out from a distance, the windshield frame is clad in silver trim. Between the Velocity Red Mica paint, dynamic 17-inch alloy wheels with exclusive silver finish and the exterior trim changes, onlookers and owners alike will recognize it as a truly exceptional – and collectable – vehicle.

Inside, the MX-5 3rd Generation Limited includes a Sirius® satellite radio-compatible seven-speaker BOSE® AM/FM/CD stereo, stainless steel scuff plates and a numbered badge. In addition, exclusive red leather seats nicely match the exterior of the car and offer excellent support and an ideal driving position. Black leather seats are optional.

Mazda’s success in creating a dynamic two-seat roadster is evident from the large number of Miatas sold since its introduction – more than 700,000 – and the more than 100 consumer and industry awards won, including 11 prestigious Automobile magazine “All Star” awards. More than 320,000 Miatas have been sold in the United States alone, and there are still in excess of 270,000 on the road – true testament to the car’s “cult” following.

Another measure of the MX-5’s success is its rampant popularity in motorsports. On any given weekend, there are more Mazdas speeding around the racetracks of North America in club racing and autocross competitions than any other brand of vehicle, many of them Miatas. In 2004, the Sports Car Club of America’s (SCCA) fastest-growing regional racing class was the Spec Miata class. Racers piloting Miatas have won SCCA Showroom Stock races all over the country, including the SSB and SSC National Championships at the prestigious SCCA Runoffs. Sharing the same DNA as previous MX-5 generations, the 2006 MX-5 3rd Generation Limited is destined to exceed the high level of street and track performance expected of a vehicle bearing the MX-5 badge.

Although the 2006 MX-5 has grown in size relative to the previous generation MX-5, the exterior design and shape remain true to the lively roadster concept born by Mazda in 1989, while benefiting from modern style updates. The nose and tail are tapered as before, but on the new MX-5, the surfaces wrap smoothly between the wheels without narrowing, providing a wider cockpit with additional hip, shoulder and elbow room. The low, flowing shoulder line is complemented by body panels that smoothly wrap around the nose and tail.

The heart of the 2006 MX-5 is a highly-responsive MZR-series 2.0-liter, 170-horsepower (at 6700 rpm) powerplant, newly developed from the unit used in both MAZDA3 and MAZDA6. This is a light and compact engine, featuring chain-driven double overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder, variable intake valve timing, electronically controlled port fuel injection and coil-on-plug ignition. The block, head and oil pan are cast aluminum, while cast iron liners provide a durable bore surface.

Revving smoothly to its 7000 rpm redline, the 2.0-liter powerplant delivers 140 lb-ft of torque at 5000 rpm for driving exhilaration throughout the rev range. More importantly, the torque curve is wide and flat, making this the most responsive MX-5 Miata yet. A complete redesign of the intake and exhaust tracts resulted in a 57-percent reduction in intake restriction and 40-percent reduction of exhaust pressure.

Throughout the development process, work focused on what Mazda engineers called “response” and “expansion feel.” A lighter flywheel, a quick response, an electric throttle and a stiff drive shaft all helped realize the responsive direct feel of the new Mazda MX-5.

In tuning the Mazda MX-5’s engine sound, a smooth, harmonic note was realized that increases with throttle opening. Above 5000 rpm, this becomes powerfully resonant, consistent with a spirited charge for the redline.

Throughout its storied history, the MX-5 Miata has been lauded for its positive shift action and short throws. Shifting gears in an MX-5 evokes the inherent oneness of the vehicle’s Zoom-Zoom driving experience. The all-new MX-5 benefits from three transmission choices: five-speed manual, six-speed manual and six-speed Sport AT automatic. The all-new six-speed manual transmission boasts ultra-short throws, reminding the driver that Miata is the benchmark for manual transmission feel and performance. Triple-cone synchronizers for the first four gears reduce shift effort, while low-friction bushings and a guide plate for lever motion ensure repeatable shifting precision.

The single most important element in creating oneness between car and driver is the chassis. The first and second generation MX-5 set a benchmark for chassis performance in the automotive industry, and true to form, so has the third generation MX-5. The spectacular new MX-5 chassis is at once responsive, precise and nimble.

2006 Mazda Miata MX-5

Auto Car | 2006 Mazda Miata MX-5 | It turns out that the Ibuki that Mazda unveiled at the October 2003 Tokyo Motor Show was little more than a tease to the legions of MX-5 Miata lovers around the world who have waited seventeen months to learn if, indeed, the concept car was a thinly disguised version of the third-generation Miata. Now that the real thing is showing its face to the public at the 2005 Geneva Motor Show, it is clear that the Ibuki was not the Miata replacement it was heralded as being by Mazda insiders, journalists, owners, and anyone else who cared to share their opinion in Internet discussion groups. Instead, the Ibuki was a conglomeration of hints, like its body shape that abandoned the tight-waisted, Coke-bottle profile of the first two MX-5 generations in favor of a swelling, slab-sided approach to create more interior room; the hood with its RX-8-style indent and the unhesitating sweep of its leading-edge curve; and the location of the engine five inches farther aft to improve weight distribution and thus handling. Ibuki influences or not, the car you see here is unmistakably a Miata. But will it drive like one?

We don't know yet, but all indications point toward a stellar experience behind the wheel, one that will be unmistakably familiar to anyone who has ever driven a Miata. That's a lot of people, considering that more than 700,000 have been sold since the original, 1990 model entered the scene in 1989. In creating this third generation, Mazda's designers and engineers again were inspired by "Jinba Ittai" (pronounced gin-buy ee-tie), a Japanese expression that translates literally to "oneness between horse and rider." Six key categories guided Mazda's efforts toward the desired "oneness": interior and exterior styling; touching (anything that affects the driver or passenger's tactile sense), listening (not only to the engine but also to the wind through the open cockpit), cornering (handling dynamics), driving (ride quality, throttle response, shifting), and braking.

The Miata always has emphasized balance and finesse over raw strength, with a small, efficient four-cylinder engine mated to a responsive, athletic chassis. That doesn't mean we haven't always wished for at least a bit more muscle under the hood, a desire that Mazda addressed with the current generation Mazdaspeed version's turbo. For 2006, there is no turbo, but displacement has been bumped to 2.0 liters, and output rises to an estimated 170 hp and 139 lb-ft of torque, compared with the outgoing car's 142 hp and 125 lb-ft. Both five- and six-speed manual transmissions will be offered, boasting short, positive throws and triple-cone synchronizers for the first four gears to help reduce engagement forces. The optional automatic transmission adds two additional forward gears, for a total of six.

The double-wishbone front and multi-line rear suspension are tuned to maximize preciseness and nimbleness, promises Mazda. Wider front and rear tracks, increased use of aluminum in suspension components, and carefully tuned rack-and-pinion steering also should improve handling responsiveness. The front strut-tower brace, rather than simply arcing over the engine, is triangulated, with a fixed center point on the firewall. Increased use of high-strength steel in the body structure also contributes to bending stiffness and torsional rigidity figures that are 22% and 47% better, respectively, than before. 205/50R-16 tires are standard, while 205/45R-17 rubber is optional.

2006 Mazda Nagare Concept

Auto Car | 2006 Mazda Nagare Concept | Nagare is certainly not a new concept – it was made public in late December 2006 at the LA Auto Show. It definitely one of their most beautiful models though.

Its name is Japense for “flow” and the Nagare’s design is supposed to capture the “spirit of motion”. It’s an age-old design mantra and holy grail for auto artists – make a car look like it’s going. Nagare was designed by Laurens van den Acker, Mazda’s global design director, and his advanced design studio team in Irvine, California.

Mazda did not provide any official information about its engine and specs. It’s believed to be powered by a hydrogen fueled rotary engine.

The Nagare's front end looks like a Mazda RX-8 from 2020, while the long hatch body behind is an organic flow of curves accentuated by stripes that follow the current of sheetmetal like a riptide. It's an interesting car to look at it and when can waste a lot of time taking in every surface detail.

The Nagare's interior also features an interesting seating arrangement, with the driver placed front and center under the roof's highest point, and three additional passengers seated behind in a "wrap-around loung". Being a pie-in-the sky concept, the Nagare isn't necessarily a running prototype, but Mazda imagines it being powered by a hydrogen-fueled rotary engine.

The the Nagare is about as far from production as one can get, but Mazda tells us that the the next concept it will debut in Detroit could be ten years out from production, and the final one being debuted in Geneva could be produced "in the very near future." We think Mazda is one of few automakers that has successfully implemented a consistent design language across it's entire lineup (save for the B50 pickup and Tribute), so we're curious to see in Detroit where the company wants to go from here.

Like all Mazda products, Nagare has the soul of a sports car. Its shape is sleek and aerodynamically efficient, as you’d expect of an urban cruiser for the future. Wheels are positioned at the far corners of the envelope for quick steering response and agile maneuverability. There isn’t an ounce of overhang wasted.

Access to the four-place interior is provided by two double-length doors that hinge forward and up like the wings of a butterfly. The driver is centrally located, like a single-seat sports racer, for optimum control and visibility. Since the driver is positioned under the highest portion of the roof, there’s ample headroom with a comfortably reclined backrest. Innovative seating arrangements are a Mazda specialty, as witnessed by the successful RX-8 four-passenger sports car and the clever packaging in the upcoming CX-9 three-row, seven-passenger crossover sport-utility vehicle.

Nagare’s rear compartment is a wrap-around lounge offering relaxed accommodations for three passengers. The central front seat and expansive door opening facilitate easy entry to the surprisingly roomy interior.

Recognizing that an advanced design concept needs an advanced powertrain, Nagare could conceivably be powered by a hydrogen-fueled rotary engine. Mazda’s work on this advanced driveline technology is among the most advanced in the world, with hydrogen/gasoline-fueled rotaries powering RX-8s currently in service in Japan.

2007 Mazda CX-7 Adrenaline

Auto Car | 2007 Mazda CX-7 Adrenaline | Based on the all-new Mazda CX-7, Adrenaline is a fully running prototype that showcases Mazda’s commitment to performance. “Adrenaline is athletically inspired for people who demand a car that is as lean and fit as they are and represents their passions, yet doesn’t sacrifice in hauling those passions around,” said Franz von Holzhausen, design director, MNAO. “Adrenaline is tuned like an avid cyclist, and delivers on the promise.”

To give Mazda’s latest crossover SUV a true sports car feel, Mazda engineers converted the CX-7’s stock six-speed automatic transmission to a six-speed manual, and, as CX-7 shares its driveline with MAZDASPEED6, they naturally chose to use the same transmission found in the MAZDASPEED6.With the help of rallyist and drifter Rhys Millen and his team in Huntington Beach, Calif., Adrenaline pushes out more than 300 horsepower, thanks to a re-tuned engine with a modified intake system, header with a free-flow exhaust and more boost from the re-plumped turbo. Other performance enhancements include a remote oil cooler and repositioned intercooler located opposite the oil cooler in the front fascia.

A wider, lower stance and a bold new face give the all-wheel-drive Adrenaline an aggressive and firmly planted sporty stance. Unique design cues include new front and rear exterior styling, a clam shell front clip, wrap around rear spoiler and an innovative rear glass design. New fenders and doors give Adrenaline a three-inch wider overall stance. Wheel wells are filled out through the fitment of 22-inch EXE wheels with a greater-than-stock offset and 285/35-R22 Yokohama tires, providing an aggressive look and sure on-the-road ride and handling.

Re-trimmed to suit an avid cyclist, Adrenaline’s interior includes a leather-wrapped instrument panel, a center console-integrated iPOD and sporty, laser-etched front and rear bucket seats. An integrated bike rack runs down the spine of the roof, while clear moon -roof panels run from header to spoiler, adding to the feeling of space in the interior. Removable DVD systems from Visteon are integrated into the interior roof panel.

Inspired by the yellow jerseys worn by bicyclists to signify stage and overall winners, Mazda designers chose gradating yellow paint theme, which gives the impression of the vehicle punching through the atmosphere. It is bright, bold and sporty.

Guaranteed to turn heads at SEMA, Adrenaline delivers on the promise of Zoom-Zoom and adroitly crosses the line between an SUV and a sports car – more practical, but just as much fun.

2007 Mazda Ryuga Concept

Auto Car | 2007 Mazda Ryuga Concept | The Mazda Ryuga (Japanese for 'gracious flow') concept was shown at the 2007 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

The Gull-winged Ryuga is the second of three concept cars following Mazda's new design language of 'flow', a style first seen on the Mazda Nagare concept shown at the 2006 LA Auto Show.

"But we wanted to take the idea further," Laurens van den Acker, Design Division General Manager for Hiroshima, Japan's Mazda Motor Corporation, said "The Ryuga concept we're presenting in Detroit is our next step in the evolution of Nagare. It's an exploratory design study that's more realistic than Nagare and therefore more useful in gauging reactions from those who see it.

"To put this in fashion terms, if Nagare is haute couture (a custom designed and tailored garment), Ryuga is prĂȘt-a-porter (ready-to-wear, not one of a kind)."

Large 21 inch wheels are placed at the far corners of the Mazda Ryuga concept's exterior and lend the car a highly stable, balanced stance. The aggressive wedge shape imparts motion even when this sports coupe is parked. Volumes that are small in front, larger at the rear, wrap around and over the wheels to give the exterior tension and direction.

The front bucket seats of the Mazda Ryuga concept provide ample lateral support for energetic driving with the shape of the seats creating an impression of movement which is further emphasized by the patterns in the material.

The experimental 'floating' center cluster allows a high level of interface between the driver and the multifunction touch panel without having to take one's eyes off the road ahead. Information necessary for safe and dynamic driving is available to the driver with RPM and speed (which is shown in both analog and digital formats) being displayed on the same axis.
