Once a year in southern Italy, under the auspices of "CONTINENTAL AG" and in cooperation with the editor of "Auto Bild sportscars", the "creme de la cra · I 'tuners vehicles go head to head - this year at 18 and October 19, 2009.

The AC Schnitzer ACS3 3.5d Coupé succeeded in breaking the world record from 2006 for the fastest road-legal diesel car by over 8.7 km/h.288.7 km/h was the figure on the display of the GPS speedometer system on the 13 km long high-speed circuit – which is in principle a giant oversized circle – after the fast lap of the AC Schnitzer ACS3 3.5d Coupé.After the records from 2006 with the TENSION as the fastest road-legal BMW, the world record still held by the GP3.10 GAS POWERED from 2007 for gas-powered vehicles, the ACS3 3.5d Coupé (based on the BMW 335d) has continued the success story.

Naturally the power upgrade which took the latest world record holder to success is part of the extensive AC Schnitzer special accessory range and available for all vehicles based on the 3.5d engine. It is TÃV-approved and available from BMW dealers.Another impressive performance in Nardò came from the AC Schnitzer ACS4 3.5 turbo (based on the BMW Z4 sdrive 35i). At 303.1 km/h, this was not a new world, but such a high speed is almost unheard of for a Roadster. The Z4 was also running with the commercial version of the AC Schnitzer performance upgrade for 3.5i engines. Quickly, as we found out.

BMW Hamann Las Vegas Wings

Auto Car | BMW Hamann Las Vegas Wings | HAMANN doesn`t only have the world`s biggest tuning program for BMW cars but also creates spectacular high performance automobiles again and again. The latest custom car from HAMANN (Internet: www.hamann-motorsport.de) is the HAMANN LAS VEGAS WINGS (Lambo Style Doors) BMW. The coupe is powered by a 485 hp / 357 kW V8 four-valve engine and captivates with its sporty design with gullwing doors. The 315 km/h fast rocket costs 280,000 Euros.
The HAMANN LAS VEGAS WINGS is constructed on the base of a reinforced bodyshell of the current BMW M3. The V8 engine originally comes from the M5 but was extensively modified at the HAMANN Tuning engine department.

Among other things the HAMANN doping for the 5.0 litre engine with single-throttle injection contains modifications on the inlet and outlet side, a special air induction with ram air effect and a 4-pipe stainless steel high performance exhaust system including special manifolds and metal-bed catalysts. The entire exhaust system was specially designed for this car. All new components get perfectly coordinated with a special mapping for the ECU.

To install the big V8 engine into the relatively small engine compartment of the BMW M3 many parts like the engine brackets, the oil-pan and the bonnet with the integrated window had to be especially handcrafted.
The engine of the HAMANN Tuning LAS VEGAS WINGS powers 485 hp / 357 kW at 6,950 rpm and delivers a maximum torque of 555 Nm at 4,100 revs.
The power transmission to the rear wheels is made via a sport clutch and a six-speed manual gearbox with HAMANN SPORT SHIFT gearshift travel shortage and a special rear axle differential with 40 per cent locking rate.
As a result the HAMANN LAS VEGAS WINGS BMW establishes itself among the world`s fastest sports cars: From standstill the coupe catapults in 4.0 seconds only to 100 km/h. After 12.9 seconds the car is already 200 km/h fast. Maximum speed is 315 km/h.
But the HAMANN LAS VEGAS WINGS isn`t one of the world`s most exciting cars because of its extremely high road performances. The innovative HAMANN gullwing design, which stands out against conventional constructions, makes the coupe a true eyecatcher. The doors swing up towards the top on an outboard stainless steel hinge fixed above the outside mirrors and stay in position supported by special gas dampers. The HAMANN gullwing design is that proven that the doors can be closed as easily, exactly and imperviously as on the standard car.

In addition HAMANN modifies the bodywork with sporty bodystyling components from the HAMANN tuning range for the current M3. The front of the LAS VEGAS WINGS is made more spectacular by fitting the HAMANN COMPETITION front spoiler edge, the HAMANN masks for the standard fog-lights and the HAMANN headlight covers.
The sides of the coupe are upgraded with HAMANN side skirts. To reach an optimal aerodynamic balance HAMANN furnishes the coupe with the HAMANN roof spoiler, the HAMANN COMPETITION rear wing with adjustable center-piece and the HAMANN diffuser for the rear apron.

BMW Hamann Z8

Auto Car |  BMW Hamann Z8 | The spectacular 507 roadster, built during 1956-59 in only 253 examples, is considered by many enthusiasts and collectors to be one of the most beautiful cars ever built. In developing the Z8, BMW designers were challenged to imagine what the original 507 would be like if it had never ceased production and had evolved over four decades. The result of this creative direction is a thoroughly contemporary interpretation of that famous and coveted roadster – a car that is truly a perfect blend of performance and sensuality; of modern technology and classic elegance.

The world's first look at the Z8 concept was the Z07 design study displayed at the 1997 Tokyo Auto Show and shortly thereafter at the1998 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Again encouraged by favorable public reaction, BMW decided to build the Z8 in limited numbers.BMW 507 designer Count Albrecht Goertz has paid the Z8 the ultimate compliment: 'If I were to design the 507 today, it would look like the Z8.' Vastly different from the esthetic of current exclusive high-performance cars, the front-engine, rear-wheel-drive sports car features a long hood, tapered overhangs, a cockpit positioned toward the rear, and a low beltline. The front-fender air vents or 'gills,' here with integrated fiber-optic turn signal lights, are a design element usually associated with the classic 507 even though the concept dates from earlier BMWs. In a world of sharp-edged, angular sports cars, the Z8 is romantically curvaceous.
The roadster's advanced lighting technology includes Xenon lowbeam headlights with dynamic auto-leveling and, concealed in the leading edges of the headlamp covers, high-intensity washers. The Z8 is the first car ever with neon turn signals and brake lights that illuminate ten times faster than conventional bulbs, giving other drivers more time to react. Another example of the attention to detail the designers lavished on the Z8 is the two round red lenses bracketing the rear license plate. The left one is a rear foglight; the right one is a backup light that, despite its red lens, illuminates white for reversing.

Building the Z8 in Germany is as unique a process as is the car itself. Z8 bodies are constructed and painted at BMW's Dingolfing plant, approximately 60 miles northeast of Munich; the front and rear bumpers are manufactured at the nearby Landshut facility. Completed bodies are then shipped to the former pilot-plant area of the company's Munich factory for final assembly. There, a small team of highly skilled craftspeople largely hand-build Z8s in 31 assembly steps. The complete construction and finishing process takes about 10 times as long as that for a 3 Series sedan. (concept carz)

The Z8 cockpit continues the theme of a modern re-creation of the 507. Thus in the tradition of great sports cars, the Z8 has a pushbutton starter for its engine. The ignition switch is mounted on the dash, just above the starter button instead of in the traditional §teering-column location. A new electronic §teering lock, along with BMW's Coded Driveaway Protection, helps deter theft. Other standard equipment includes heated leather seats, a power roadster top and a removable aluminum hardtop with heated rear window. The extensive Nappa leather upholstery and trim is accented with body-color painted surfaces and aluminum control knobs, all connoting –5 –more– astounding attention to detail. Interior trim consists of aluminum and colorkeyed painted surfaces; among the few changes for '02 are new choices for combining trim colors with the four available upholstery schemes.

There was never any question about what engine should power the Z8. The 3.2-liter aluminum V8 that powered the original 507 was, at the time, BMW's most powerful engine. For a car that personifies BMW's passion for driving, only the most powerful road engine in BMW history, the S62 5-liter V-8 - also found in the M5 sedan - would do. Delivering 394 horsepower and 368 lb-ft. of torque, the Z8's aluminum engine is completely civilized in traffic and around town, thanks in part to its infinitely adjustable, electronically controlled valve-timing system.
Called High-Pressure Double VANOS 1, the system varies valve timing on the intake and exhaust valves of both cylinder heads – thus on all four camshafts – helping optimize power, torque and emission control. The 'high-pressure' designation signifies the fact that this engine, like other BMW M engines but distinct from regular production BMW powerplants, includes a dedicated oil pump for the VANOS system.
The engine's 'drive-by-wire' throttle system operates eight individual intake throttles and includes M Driving Dynamics Control, which allows the driver to select between Normal and quicker Sport response characteristics. A unique g-sensitive engine-lubrication system automatically ensures proper oil circulation in hard cornering situations. Because a V-8 engine's cylinder heads are canted at a 45° angle, there could be insufficient natural oil flow out of the heads under extreme cornering loads. In addition to the usual pressure pump, there are two scavenging pumps, one for each cylinder bank. In straight-ahead driving, these pumps pick up oil from the rear of the 1 – VANOS = VAriable NOckenwellen Steuerung = variable camshaft control, or variable valve timing. –6 –more– engine and return it to the sump. In hard cornering (0.9g or more), the Dynamic Stability Control system's lateral-g sensor switches magnetic valves to different pickup points, at the curve-outer side of each head and the pan.

The original 507's body was aluminum. Taking up that tradition in a 21st-century form, all the Z8's body panels, except its bumpers and door hinges, are aluminum. Here BMW has taken the use of this lightweight alloy a step further and designed an entire space frame in aluminum. This concept combines moderate weight with body rigidity that is unparalleled by any other open sports car in this category. The monocoque frame is made of extrusion-pressed beams much like the trusses of a timber house. Nearly 1,000 rivets and 190 ft. of fused welding seam (MIG) hold the frame and body panels together. The frame is made largely in-house at BMW's Dingolfing plant, where the existing aluminum processing center also makes the 3 Series convertible hardtop, M3 hood and 7 Series hood and front fenders. The space frame, which is 30 percent lighter than if it were made of steel, provides exceptional torsional rigidity to eliminate most of the body or –7 –more– 'cowl' shake usually associated with an open-top car: 'The chassis is rigid enough,' commented Car and Driver in April 2001, 'to harness the engine's thrust without any creaks or groans.' This also provides an extremely stable platform for precise suspension tuning, and contributes to excellent driver feedback. The central frame's stiffness also allows much lower side sills than is normally the case for a roadster. Pairs of unique aluminum 'Y' arms that connect the Z8's front and rear sections to its space frame provide much of the torsional rigidity and accident protection. In a crash, the arms are designed to crumple, absorbing energy and transferring forces to the sturdy center floor pan. In simulations of the rigorous European Únion's 40-mph offset crash test, the Z8's passenger cell remained completely intact. 'Smart' 2-stage airbags, safety belts with force limiters and automatic tensioners, twin Rollover Protection hoops behind the seats, and a reinforced windshield frame provide additional protection.

BMW Z4

Auto Car | BMW Z4 | The BMW Z4 is one of the more intriguing sports cars available. It's a successor to the original Z3 and is the company's only two-seat sports car. It features traditional characteristics such as a front-engine/rear-drive layout, a hunkered-down stance, a long hood and rearward positioning of driver and passenger. While the first Z4 featured a traditional soft top, the current Z4 model has a sleek retractable hardtop that makes this fun-loving roadster a more viable all-year car choice. The current Z4 also represents a slight change in philosophy for BMW's roadster, as it sacrifices ultimate handling for greater ride comfort and overall refinement. The result is a grand touring coupe and roadster, and one of the most rounded sports cars money can buy.

The BMW Z4 was completely redesigned for 2009, as the coupe and roadster models were melded into one with the introduction of a retractable hardtop. The styling was revamped to be more curvaceous and fluid than its angular avant-garde predecessor, while the interior gains some space, style and improved materials. The former car's top-of-the-line engine becomes the base motor, while BMW's sweet twin-turbo straight-6 becomes the Z4's kingpin.

The Z4 is offered in two trim levels: sDrive30i and sDrive35i. The former gets a 3.0-liter inline-6 that produces 255 horsepower and 220 pound-feet of torque. The sDrive35i gets a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6 good for 300 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque. Both cars come standard with a six-speed manual transmission. A six-speed conventional automatic is optional on the sDrive30i, while the optional transmission for the sDrive35i is a seven-speed dual-clutch automated manual.

Even in its basic trim, the first-generation BMW Z4 rewarded drivers with an engaging driving experience. In Edmunds.com reviews, editors praised the car's sharp reflexes and quick acceleration, though the ride could be a bit rough and the steering wasn't as communicative as some competitors. The Coupe possessed a slight advantage in terms of handling due to its added body rigidity. For shoppers desiring even more performance, there was also an M-powered version of the Z4.

2011 AC Schnitzer BMW F10 5 Series Sedan

Auto Car | 2011 AC Schnitzer BMW F10 5 Series Sedan | The BMW 5-series saloon gains its wings from AC Schnitzer. “Dynamics in its most beautiful form” – the new BMW 5-series saloon has been in the showrooms of BMW dealers since May 2010.

Aachen-based tuning specialist AC Schnitzer gives the new dynamic BMW extra wings with its extensive range of special accessories. Thanks to the AC Schnitzer performance upgrade on the 530d, the driver behind the wheel can enjoy 286 HP instead of the standard 245 HP. Optimizations for the BMW 520d, 525d and 535d are also in development. Whatever the model, all 5-series can be improved with the AC Schnitzer engine styling with capacity logo.

Acoustically, the AC Schnitzer versions of the BMW 550i, 535i, 535d and 530d are enhanced with the twin sports rear silencer with its chromed “Sports Trim“ tailpipe trims in left/right combination (in development). This not only provides the sonorous, sporting sound but also brings an improved response behaviour from the engine. For the purely aesthetic enhancement of the exhaust system on the 525d and 530d models, a chromed “Racing“ tailpipe trim is also available.

The “most beautiful form” of dynamic driving behaviour is provided by the AC Schnitzer spring kit, which not only lowers the vehicle by 25 millimetres but also gives the entire suspension set-up a more sporting tone, without neglecting the comfort requirements of the passengers.

There’s no escaping it – even the most dynamic drive must be slowed down at some point. In this case, the AC Schnitzer 8-piston high performance brake system mercilessly grips the front axle. The 8-pot fixed calliper (left/right) and the perforated, internally vented brake discs provide greatly improved deceleration and even safer stopping for the vehicle – and of course the wheels, available from AC Schnitzer in various designs and with different wheel and tyre combinations.

The five-series by AC Schnitzer stands either on 19 or 20-inch Type IV wheels in BiColor or silver. Another alternative in 19 inch is the Type VIII rim, which is also available for the 5-series BMW.
The highlight of the wheel range for the new 5-series (F10) is the Forged Alloy Type V rim, which allows sizes of 9.0J and 10.0J x 20 inch with tyres 245/35 R20 on the front and 285/30 R 20 on the rear, and at the same time achieves a clear weight advantage.

BMW drivers place great visual importance on sporting, refined styling. In development of the aerodynamic kit, the AC Schnitzer designers and engineers have picked up the contours of the new 5-series saloon and subtly emphasised this. The result is a tailor-made outfit which further enhances the striking looks of the BMW 5-series.

At first glance, the new front spoiler catches the eye. This, in conjunction with the chromed grille, ensures a far more dynamic appearance. And of course the saloon not only has a smart front, but also a neat rear: the AC Schnitzer rear skirt insert integrates the sports exhaust harmoniously, and together with the rear roof spoiler and rear spoiler, makes the entire rear end substantially “more powerful”. Visually, the AC Schnitzer side skirt elements with chromed design elements (available as an option) link the front and rear parts of the vehicle.

That perfect feeling while driving comes also from the AC Schnitzer interior enhancements such as the AC Schnitzer “Evo” sports airbag steering wheel with optional AC Schnitzer carbon steering wheel insert in black “Exclusiv“. The carbon interior trim and the carbon sill trim set in black “Exclusiv“ ensure just the right distinction from the standard look. The AC Schnitzer interior range also includes the aluminium cover for the i-Drive System Controller, aluminium foot rests and pedals set, and gear knobs in leather, aluminium (black anodized), with leather and illumination or digital gear display. Boot and foot mats in velours complete the interior package.

“Dynamics in its most beautiful form” – the new BMW 5-series saloon has been in the showrooms of the BMW dealers since May 2010. “Dynamics in its most beautiful form – beyond the standard” is now available from Aachen tuning specialist AC Schnitzer

    * Genuine carbon plus 22 inch wheels for enhanced sportiness
    * Refined aluminium interior

LUMMA Design gives the BMW 7 Series a wider look. Selected applications made from genuine carbon and 22 inch light alloy wheels ensure that the BMW with its noble finish exhibits independence while staying true to its sportiness. Aluminium in the interior lends an individual touch.

The fact that LUMMA Design has a sense of BMW’s design language already becomes apparent in the front spoiler bumper. The curvature of the bonnet and the kidney front grille find their match in the new LUMMA front, which integrates grid inserts, fog lights and LED daytime running lights. The new shapely look is completed by the cup spoiler sword.

The ten-piece wheels arch extensions are key to the new sporty appearance: the luxury limousine becomes significantly wider, ensuring a dominant appearance. The door attachments and rear apron corners make for harmonious integration of the extension set and the full aerodynamics package.

LUMMA Design offers a set of deep door-sills that has been designed especially for the BMW 7 Series with its extended wheelbase, so as to bridge the parameterisation of the wheels arch extensions.

2011 Manhart Racing BMW M6XR Twin Turbo

Auto Car | 2011 Manhart Racing BMW M6XR Twin Turbo | Manhart Racing has debuted a new BMW M6XR Twin Turbo package for the BMW X6 M, The ber-SUV is powered with a V8 twin turbo engine as standard, which products a fat 555 hp and 680 Nm of torque at a maximum charging pressure of 1.5 bar.

The BMW X6 M V8 twin turbo engine proved no exception to his ability to quickly find efficient ways of increasing the performance of an engine. Thanks to an overhaul of the engine electronics, including DME control, and a catalytic conversion including modifications to the converters, the power of the 4.4 litre V8 is increased to 687 hp, which at a tare weight of 2380 kg amounts to a power to weight ratio of 3.4 kg per hp.

Manhart M6XR sprints to 100 km/h from a standing start in just 4.7 seconds, and achieves an unbelievable top speed of 319 km/h. A version with more than 700 hp is planned within a short time which, equipped with new exhaust manifolds, will break the 900 Nm barrier.

Something is also conducive to the power of the car, of course, is the new stainless steel exhaust system, with four 90 mm tailpipes and two 200-cell HJS racing catalytic converters. Four Manhart RS sports rims ensure optimum contact with the bitumen, all at 11J x 23 in size and fitted with 315/25 ZR23 tyres. With the sports chassis, developed and manufactured by Manhart, the centre of gravity of the X6 M is approx. 30 mm lower, which is of particular benefit to handling in tight corners. Optimum deceleration of the 2.4-tonne sports SUV is ensured by a high-end braking system with 395 mm discs and six-piston calipers at the front, and 375 mm discs with four-piston calipers at the rear.

There is the option of a full-leather interior with Alcantara roof and door linings, to go with the characteristically clinical interior of the X6 M, as well as numerous Klavierlack double-coat clear finish trimmings.
