After a series of exhibitions throughout the Ferrari Dealer Network in the UK, the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti which was designed by the award-winning Wallpaper* magazine on behalf of a Ferrari collector and shown at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and the exclusive Salon Priv in July 2006 has been delivered to its owner, Mr Paul Hill, by Ferraris Charles Hurst dealership in Belfast.



Wallpaper*, the leading magazine for design, interiors, fashion and travel, was invited to design a stylish and sophisticated Ferrari 612 Scaglietti which reflected the desire for a unique Ferrari which defines luxury and taste. Through the unlimited possibilities available in Ferraris bespoke Carrozzeria Scaglietti Personalisation Programme, the car was specified in a stunning but subtle two-tone paint scheme, with two complementary colours Nero and Blu Pozzi which are also silhouetted in the interior of the car, which has Nero and Blu Scuro leather Daytona seats with Blu stitching.



In addition to the Handling GTC package and F1 gearbox, the car features some truly bespoke elements: dedicated branding on the aluminium kickplates, discrete branding on the leather of the glovebox lid, and a custom-made leather pocket for the magazines new City Guides. Ferrari F430 Challenge 2006

Auto Car | Ferrari F430 Challenge 2006 | Frankfurt, Germany, September 12th 2005-The highlights at the Ferrari stand at the 61st Frankfurt Motor Show will be the world preview of the F430 Challenge, the 8-cylinder berlinetta-derived competition car that will be taking part in the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli from the 2006 season.Ferrari has also reaffirmed the strong link between its GT and sporting divisions with the new F430 Challenge which is specifically designed to meet the expectations of its sportier clients. The F430 Challenge retains the same general look and 490 hp engine as the road-going version. However, it also incorporates a large number of significant track-oriented modifications and a host of new features not seen in the car currently used in the series, the 360 Challenge, which it joins on the track next season and completely replaces in 2007.



An intensive series of development tests held at Fiorano and other prestigious circuits have honed the F430 Challenge's talents too. In fact, it offers a stunning series of features sure to meet with the approval of its drivers. As ever, the transfer from Formula 1 is significant, particularly with regard to the braking system which uses carbon-ceramic material (CCM) - a first for a Ferrari sports competition car.The electronic gearbox is also F1-derived and works in exactly the same way as the one used aboard the Grand Prix car. Thanks to a sinterised two-plate clutch and specific software, it also offers the same gear-changing times as the road-going F430 (150 ms) in the much more extreme track conditions. Fifth and sixth gear ratios have also been modified with respect to the road-going version as has the final drive ration order to make the very most of the engine on all the circuits where the F430 Challenge will race. New 19�� slick tyres were also developed specifically by Pirelli and are designed to comply with the very strict racing regulations that demand endurance whilst still delivering blistering performance.



The F430 Challenge boasts a kerb weight of just 1,225 kg (excluding petrol). Weight has been reduced in every area of the car, from the engineering to the bodywork. Of particular note are the Lexan� windscreen, the all-carbon fibre intake plenum cover, and the specific exhaust system. To ensure that drivers get the full benefit of the car's sporty prowess on the track, the E-Diff has been replaced by a mechanical differential and the EBD has been replaced with a mechanical system. Similarly, the stability and traction control is permanently disengaged and �race� settings have been maintained on the gearbox and engine management system, along with the ABS and ASR, thus doing away with the manettino switch. The ASR can be deactivated by the driver at will.



The most notable of the other solutions introduced in the new F430 Challenge is the new steering wheel with a quick release mechanism to make it easier to get into and out of the car. The wheel is also equipped with buttons for radio contact with the pits, to set the pit lane speed and interface with the new colour digital instrument panel. The rear of the car is characterised by a new exhaust system which has high central tail pipes, and by the modified grille which increases the extraction of hot air from the rear of the engine bay. The anti-roll bars, springs and single-rate shocks have all been modified for racing use too. The centre locking wheels make wheel changes faster too as does the fact that the car incorporates pneumatic jacks.

Ferrari P4/5 by Pininfarina 2006

Auto Car | Ferrari P4/5 by Pininfarina 2006 | July 29th, 2006 - Recently, there has been a ton of commotion surrounding the discovery, by many fans, blogs and magazines, of a specially commissioned Ferrari that was rebodied and rebuilt by Pininfarina. The story has been unfolding on a specific Ferrarichat.com thread where James Glickenhaus revealed his dream his was coming true and a custom tailored Ferrari was being made for himself.



The project began in late 2005 when James purchased Ferrari's flagship Enzo supercar and immediately sent it to Pininfarina's design studio. Critical of the original styling, James requested that Pininfarina rebody his car drawing inspiration from Ferrari's 1960s prototypes of which he owns two magnificent examples. Pininfarina's team, led by Ken Okuyama, responded by saying that they wanted to stay away from retro design and move towards a more forward thinking supercar. No doubt, the two parties have come up with a clever balance and Jason Castriota's design is as striking as his work on the the Maserati Birdcage 75th concept car and the Ferrari 599 GTB.



To say that Pininfarnia have simply re-bodied the Enzo is a massive understatement. What James has revealed is that Pininfarina spent considerable time in the wind tunnel and on the road to ensure the excellent dynamics of the Ferrari aren't lost. Over 200 custom parts were manufactured in the process including a custom interior with complicated hinges for the butterly doors. And, with a 374 lb (270 kg) weight reduction, the P4/5 is now one of the most fastest, stylish and usable cars of our time.



Another important aspect of the project is James' support of the custom-built Ferrari. Back when Ferrari was an upcoming manufacturer, preferred clients would order a racing chassis and then have any number of design studios hand craft a custom body around it. This art all but disappeared with the widespread use of unit-body construction in the seventies that sent the cost of making such cars through the roof. However, the P4/5, and other, more secret Ferraris developed for the Sultan of Brunei have broke barriers and piqued our interest in modern custom supercars.

The main characteristic of the Dino Concept design is the way it looks similar to the original Dino. With very round styling elements around the wheelbases and its cockpit, it looks retro and modern at the same time. With the right proportions combined, the car looks very dynamic and stylish. It stays true to its original with the design of the rear and the front being rounded and avoiding the hard edges as much as possible.



Also the rear window opening is a striking feature originating from the original Ferrari Dino. The air intakes scoops however are very different compared to the original Dino, they look very organic and visually add a very organic feel to the car. Ferrari F430 GT Racing 2007

Auto Car | Ferrari F430 GT Racing 2007 | Developed in conjunction with Michelotti, the F430 GT is a stripped down version of the road car meant for endurance racing. It has been used in many road-race series including FIA GT2, ALMS, International Open GT and Italian GT events.The F430 GT's major debut was at the 12 Hours of Sebring where Risi Competizione took third overall. It was a resounding success for an 'out of the box' racer which won it's first local race at Imola for the inaugural round of the 2006 Italian GT Championship.



The F430 does without driver aids and a production interior. It has an new body with a combination of carbon fibre, nomex and kevlar that gives a weight of 1100 kgs. It also shares its aluminum chassis with the road car but features a smaller version of its V8 that breaths through two 28mm air restrictors for FIA-sanctioned races.



Compared to the 360 GTC it replaces, the new model's biggest feature is a 4.0 V8 which offers plenty more torque and more compact dimensions thanks to a new bearing design. After extensive wind tunnel testing the body also gives more down force and the F430 chassis offers much more torsional rigidity than the 360's. With these changes, the is strong contender in GT2 championships and tuned the tide on Porsche's GT3 RSR.



Both Ferrari and Porsche have continued development of their race cars from 2006 to 2009. Throughout this time The F430 GT has been the usual victor in the Porsche/Ferrari battle, but the Ferrari has been beaten at the 24 Hours of Le Mans every time out.

Ferrari F2007 2007

Auto Car | Ferrari F2007 2007 | The project, known internally as the 658, represents the Scuderia's interpretation of the technical regulations that apply for 2007, with changes principally concerning safety, through the introduction of more stringent front and rear crash tests and the addition of a composite material structure to provide lateral protection to the sides of the driver. These modifications have led to a significant increase in the weight of the car, in the region of just under ten kilogrammes.The F2007 chassis has been significantly modified when compared to the 248 F1. The design was revised to accommodate a new front suspension that represents a major conceptual innovation, mainly in terms of aerodynamics.



The shape of the side-pods and their openings are also revised, based on modifications to the cooling system, which also implies exits for the radiators on the upper part of the bodywork, while the engine air intake is also substantially different. The car has a longer wheelbase than its predecessor. The rear of the car is much narrower, taking advantage of the more sculpted shape of the gearbox housing, which again this year is made from carbon fibre. The gearbox itself, which is still mounted longitudinally, is fitted with an innovative quick-shift system (seven plus reverse). The rear suspension is similar to that on the 248 F1, but a significant development programme is planned in this area, in order to get the most out of the system, based on making progress in understanding the behaviour of the 2007 tyres. The front and rear aerodynamic configuration is also expected to change considerably before the start of the World Championship. The position of the rear view mirrors seen on the 2006 car remains unchanged and the same goes for the exhaust system.



In accordance with the regulations that come into force this year, the basic structure of the engine remains the same as the one homologated at the end of last season. Therefore, the 056 engine continues as a load bearing member and is again mounted longitudinally. Based on what is permitted in the regulations, the following modifications have been carried out to the engine signed off with the FIA in October 2006:· the combustion chamber, the valves, the inlet and exhaust chambers, all aimed at optimising the torque curve, given the engine rev limit of 19,000 rpm;
· the piston, the piston pin and the piston cooling jets to aim for the best possible reliability when running at the limit of 19,000 rpm;
· the fluid systems (water and oil) and components to facilitate the integration of the 056 into the new car.



As usual, during the design and development phase of the complete car, the technical partners played an important role. A significant part was played by Shell in terms of fuel and lubricants, by the Fiat Research Centre in the use of simulation systems and by Brembo in developing the braking system. As is now traditional, a great deal of attention was paid to the performance and optimisation of the materials used, to the design stage and to quality control, striving to maximise the performance level and to ensure the highest possible standard of safety.

Ferrari Millechili Concept Model 2007

Auto Car | Ferrari Millechili Concept Model 2007 | There are no production plans for this cardboard model which nevertheless gives some hints at Ferrari's future plans, which include lighter, more efficient cars.  Millechili means 1000 kilograms, which would be all this small Ferrari would weigh if put into production.

 

The design would incorporate a hybrid powertrain that would come into play by maintaining a continuous flow of power between shifts.
