Auto Car | 2010 Alfa Romeo Brera Italia Independent | The 2010 Alfa Romeo Brera Italia Independent was designed to be the most stylish vehicle on the road. It was specially garnishes with black leather upholstery and carbon fiber trim and it was painted in titanium opaque. The Brera also comes with a high-end audio system and an automatic dual zone climate control system. Power is said to be pushing 185 hp. There are only 900 units of the special edition vehicle that will be sold in Europe, Japan and Australia.
The automaker's UK arm is launching the new special edition Alfa Romeo Brera Italia Independent together with two new turbocharged powering options available for both the Brera coupe and the Spider convertible models. The first new engine is the 1750 TBi 4-cylinder petrol that develops 200 HP and 320 Nm of torque while the second is the 2.0-litre JTDM diesel that delivers 170 HP and 360 Nm of peak torque. The Alfa Romeo Brera price starts at 25,205 GBP while the 1750 TBi Spider has been prices at 27,205 GBP.
On the turbodiesel equipped version pricing starts at 24,995 GBP for the coupe and reaches 26,995 GBP for the 2.0-litre JTDM convertible. As far as the Alfa Romeo Brera Italia Independent the car includes features like the new matt balck titanium body finish, 18 inclj alloy wheels painted black, red brake calipers and an aluminium fuel cap that resembles the one of the Alfa 8C.
Inside the Alfa Romeo Brera Italia Independent customers will enjoy the leather wrapped seats, steering wheel and gear knob, the various carbon fiber inserts, sports dials, aluminium pedals and the new radio/navigation system that comes with the Blue&Me technology.
Alfa Romeos are stylish things, and the brand possesses a somewhat exotic image among mass market manufacturers. Perhaps it’s the Italian heritage, or the usually sexy design of its cars, but many of us do have a craving for these Alfas, even if our wallets disapprove. And to further cement its high fashion image, Alfa has collaborated with fashion house Italia Independent for a special edition Brera that’s limited to 900 units.
According to the maker of “personal belongings” the Italia Independent concept is “an eye for detail and the continuous search for quality with a distinctive style”. Our detailed eye spots out “titanium” paint, 18-inch turbine-style dark alloys and red brake calipers hiding inside, plus an aluminum fuel cap with the Alfa logo. The cabin is full of carbonfibre, black leather and red stitching, and a smattering of Italia Independent logos. Not sure if this is nicer than the red leather with gunmetal grey trim Brera that you can view at Auto ConneXion showrooms.
The standard Brera with 2.2 JTS engine sold in Malaysia is poor value for money at RM308,888, and it doesn’t need the VW Scirocco (more power, faster, more space) to point that out – Alfa’s own 159 saloon, which shares the coupe’s engine, Selespeed gearbox and nice dash design goes for RM188,888! I prefer the saloon too in terms of driving – it has better ride quality and feels more light footed.
