Morgan SuperSports Junior 3-wheeler pedal car revealed

Auto Car | Morgan SuperSports Junior 3-wheeler pedal car revealed | The SuperSport Junior Pedal Car is built to 2/3 scale and is based on the original Morgan 3-wheel vehicles built by Morgan founder HFS Morgan at the beginning of the 20th Century.
The car features high quality materials to keep the weight down and is made from aluminum. Morgan Motor Company says it has designed this pedal-powered car for 6 to 13 year olds.

Morgan will make only 500 of the SuperSport Junior Pedal Car. Each will sell for 2,510 UK pounds, or 2,642 euros. Leather upholstery will cost you an extra 250 pounds.
Okay, let's get this out of the way: It's a tricycle. A very expensive tricycle.

But what if they made this car for adults? Larger and with a battery and no pedals? Yes, that's a great idea. An electric car!

Morgan 4/4 70th Anniversary

Auto Car | Morgan 4/4 70th Anniversary | There are many motor manufacturers who can claim 70 years of continuous production, but it is only the Morgan Motor Company who can make this claim with the same model!
Launched back in 1936 the Morgan 4/4 remains in full production today. To celebrate this unique achievement, the Morgan Motor Company has unveiled a special model.
Appropriately named "70th Anniversary", just 142 cars will be built - two cars for every year of its production life since launch. Each car individually marked with the year it honours, and finished in period style.

With the specification subtly changing through the decades with period colours, trims and hood styles, the standard specification of fold flat windscreen, vintage dashboard, sheepskin bonnet strap and drilled steel wheels with chrome hub caps, all add highly visual links to the past.
A strong galvanised steel chassis carries coachbuilt bodywork of aluminium panels over an ash frame, built to the same tradition as the 1930s.
The 70th Anniversary limited edition cars have been fully tested and developed to meet all of the latest crash and emission standards with the latest 4/4s being powered by the super efficient 1.8 litre 125 bhp Ford Duractec engine.

Charles Morgan, Director and Grandson of the Company’s founder said "we are really proud to celebrate this anniversary. We have made nearly 10,000 4/4s over the years. The fact that we have kept the essence and character of the car, whilst keeping the functionality and safety totally current is a testament to the original design, and the skills and ingenuity of our engineers at the factory in Malvern."
The 142 Anniversary cars will be priced at £27,950 including VAT, production runs from January to November 2006. Further details can be found on the Morgan Motor Company web site.

Morgan Aero 8

Auto Car | Morgan Aero 8 | The most striking change is the restyled front, that bears more than a passing resemblance to the graceful lines of the AeroMax coupe that starred at last year's Salon de L'auto at Geneva. Now the all-aluminium super performer sports more traditional Morgan lines, whilst preserving its remarkable handling and performance.

The race proven bonded aluminum chassis and the coach-built body remain a hallmark of all Morgans. Under the traditionally styled bonnet you will find the very latest version of the 4.4 V8 from BMW, incorporating their brilliant Vanos and Valvetronic control systems. Combining its 325 bhp with the lightweight construction delivers a class busting 284 bhp/ton adding up to a 0-62 mph time of under 4.5 seconds and a top speed of over 160 mph (260 km/h). Yet it also possesses the ability to come to a full stop, from 62 mph in just 35.8 meters, or put another way, less than 9 car lengths.

Bosch ABS, Electronic Brake Distribution and Drag Torque Control all combine to maximize balance and poise without over compensating for driver involvement, leading to a unique driving experience delivering safety, high performance and a highly involving driving experience.
The range of standard equipment has been further improved, with the addition of Driver and Passenger Airbags, ABS, cruise control, remote central locking, remote tire pressure monitoring, headlight wash and an optional lightweight hard top.

Morgan Aeromax

Auto Car | Morgan Aeromax | Based on the requirement for a comfortable long distance Touring Coupe, drawings by Matthew Humphries were discussed with the customer to define the total concept. Particluar requirements such as the gullwing" boot openings, hardwood and traditional pleated leather interior and a large flat load area behind the seats were particular requirements.

The car is an illustration of flexible manufacturing at the Morgan Motor Company. Modern automotive technology is combined with quality craftsmanship. The beautiful finish of the bodywork is the result of the craftsmen’s passion at Morgan.

The aluminium chassis has safety features which have surpassed the industry standards of the vehicle certification authorities of Europe and the USA during the approval process. Siemens electronic airbag systems protect the occupants and sensors are built into each wheel bearing to relay tyre contact information to the engine ECU and the ABS electronic brake control units. The car has reassuring driver features such as air conditioning, tyre pressure and tyre temperature monitoring and cruise control. Even with these features the chassis is the lightest V8 production platform in the world.

Morgan Aero SuperSports

Auto Car | Morgan Aero SuperSports | Designed and engineered in house, the Morgan Aero SuperSports is a lightweight aluminium sports car with a luxurious specification. The interior features a comfortable combination of polished hardwoods, hand stitched leather and electronic technology to create a driving environment that is efficient, ergonomic and sumptuous. In spite of all this opulence the overall weight of the car is still minimal so the car is responsive to driver inputs and economical to run. The unique way Morgan can achieve this is down to our use of aircraft style superformed aluminium outer panels and the skills of our craftsmen to hand finish the assembly of each car.

This technology debuted in the 100 AeroMax coupes built by the factory in 2008 and 2009.

Such was demand for this model, that Morgan have taken the decision to produce the Morgan Aero SuperSports. A limited edition, the car makes use of two aluminium detachable roof panels. These can either turn the car effectively in to a coupe or when detached bring fresh air and the aromas of the seasons to the driving experience without undue wind disturbance to spoil the journey. The panels can be stored conveniently in the boot.

The car of course benefits from the lightweight aluminium Aero chassis which is adhesively bonded for class leading rigidity. Exceeding global crash protection standards, this is also the platform used by the Morgan Aero Eight GT3 currently competing successfully in the 2009 International FIA GT3 Championship. This chassis combined with the aluminium 4.8 litre BMW V8 engine and a choice of 6 speed automatic or manual gearboxes offers an unrivalled driving experience. No other automatic car offers such dynamic power transmission.

Drawn by Matthew Humphries, and engineered for production by the experienced “Morgan Design” team, the new Aero Super Sports is due to enter production in early 2010. A deposit of £25,000 is required to ensure the supply of one of these exciting new models. It is anticipated to cost around £127,000 including VAT.

Charles Morgan, Grandson of the founder said “ The Morgan Aero SuperSports is a luxurious flamboyant sports car which also remains true to Morgan’s philosophy of lightweight minimalist simplicity. It is a celebration of our love of cars and the romance of travel and is a fitting model to announce during Morgan’s Centenary year.”

Morgan EvaGT Concept

Auto Car | Morgan EvaGT Concept | At a time of global conservation with a drive towards improved fuel economy the Morgan Motor Company introduces a new concept for a sporting family, the Morgan EvaGT. The four seater Coupe takes its inspiration from the British sports saloons of the early 1950’s. Among these were the Bristol 400 series and the Frazer Nash BMW 328. After the Second World War rationing forced designers to conserve and make the most of the materials at their disposal.  However the pressure cooker of war had also led to an abundance of innovative engineering ideas. Steel was scarce so lightweight aluminium was used for bodywork. Smooth “in-line” straight six cylinder engines were fitted to give long distance comfort and reliability. Because the engineers had often worked on aircraft development during the war aerodynamics contributed to high but economical cruising speeds.

The Morgan Motor Company is the last survivor of these British sports car manufacturers. Of course the company is lucky enough to have 100 years of continuous success behind it and like Bristol and Frazer Nash; Morgan has a history of successful collaborations with German suppliers BMW, Siemens and Bosch. But Morgan also works with a number of young engineering companies in the United Kingdom and with world class British university research departments.

The new challenge is to make cars that are more efficient than any we have seen so far. The Morgan Motor Company is in a good position to respond to this challenge because the company is small and flexible with a proven track record of fast development cycles. It currently manufactures one of the greenest sports cars in the world, the Morgan Four Four Sport. Morgan achieves this result with the use of the new Ford 1.

Sigma engine coupled with a light chassis. Morgan currently has a young well qualified technical team working towards a potential 5 engineering PHD’s, who will make full use of research departments at the University of Oxford, Cranfield and Birmingham City to tap into a technical knowledge network to make more efficient cars. This team is helping to develop a high torque electric motor twice as powerful as others of the same weight and size and a powerful lithium phosphate battery with a higher charge density to achieve the most efficient performance for weight so far.

The dynamic team at Morgan has made a commitment from 2010 that they will bring out a new model every two years. The legendary sports car manufacturer will target new niches…..electric sports cars, a fun weekend vehicle and the first of the new cars will be the Morgan EvaGT, a four seater Coupe aimed at young families, with a bit of drama or automotive theatre as we like to call it. This is a revolution for a car company famous for making the same car for 50 years!

EVA-GT: the limited edition car

Auto Car | EVA-GT: the limited edition car | Morgan has released a teaser image of an upcoming four seater Coupe to be known as the EvaGT. Taking its inspiration from the British sports saloons of the early 1950s such as the Bristol 400 series and the Frazer Nash BMW 328, the EvaGT will run a direct petrol injection, twin turbo 3.0 liter BMW six-cylinder motor producing 306bhp and 400nm torque. Though power is modest in terms of supercar figures, the EvaGT uses aluminum body panels and its bonded aluminum chassis is developed from the Morgan Aero SuperSports, where it is used successfully in European GT3 racing, meaning that the car tips the scales at just 1250 kg (2755 lbs). This gives it a top speed of 170 mph (273 km/h), a 0-100 km/h time of just 4.5 seconds and distinctly un-supercar-like fuel economy of 7.06 liters/100kms (40 mpg) along with Euro 5 and 6 emissions compliance at 200 gms Co2/km.

Morgan has committed to releasing a new car every two years from this point, which is somewhat of a turnaround for a company best known for making the same car for 50 years!

The modernization process is excellent news for automotive enthusiasts as the company’s vehicles have enjoyed a reputation as drivers cars for 75 years and the progressive young design team will now target new niches. Some of the first target niches include an electric sports cars, a fun weekend vehicle and the first of the new cars will be the Morgan EvaGT, a four seater Coupe aimed at young families, with “a bit of drama or automotive theatre” as Morgan likes to call it.

Five members of the Morgan technical team are currently working towards engineering PHDs, and hence are well tapped into the research departments at the University of Oxford, Cranfield and Birmingham City and the tertiary knowledge network required to make more efficient cars.

This team is developing a high torque electric motor “twice as powerful as others of the same weight and size” and “a powerful lithium phosphate battery with a higher charge density to achieve the most efficient performance for weight so far”, according to Morgan.
