Auto Car | I.DE.A Institute Sofia Concept | At the 2010 Geneva Motor Show IDEA Institute has presented the Sofia Concept, a design study of a four-door, four-seater large sedan that pays homage to Italian elegance and femininity with an exterior inspired by classic sportscars.
IDEA Sofia ConceptThe Sofia Concept, revealed by Italian IDEA Institute at the recent 2010 Geneva Motor Show, pays homage to "Italianity" in all of its forms, starting from the very name, inspired by Italian actress Sofia Loren.
The design combines large dimensions (5+ meters in length, 2+ meters in width) with a relatively low stance (1,38 meters) and smooth and flowing lines inspired by classic Italian sportscars.
The overall result has a strong link with the ERA concept presented at Geneva in 2009, and shows some reminescences of the recent Fisker Karma and Tesla Model S, especially in the side view.
IDEA Sofia ConceptThe front end is dynamic and features thin LED headlamps and a grille inspired by premium Italian brands.
The profile features a distinctive character line that runs from the front fender to the C-Pillar and creates a bottom border for the side windows.
The side view mirrors are replaced by minimal cameras and the tapered rear end is visually lightened by the design of the bumper.
Even if the concept presented was a static model, the vehicle has been designed to accomodate a hybrid powertrain with a V8 engine, capable of more than 400 hp.
IDEA Sofia ConceptThe interior – which was not revealed – can accomodate four passengers.
The Sofia Concept represents a further step in the company’s renewal process, started back in 2007.
"Sofia is also inspired by the female form: its flanks, glance and elegance are emphasised by a glamorous red dress.
"The curves are graceful, the lines smooth and supple, the shape and profile are as enchanting and alluring as a female figure.
"The front and rear light clusters convey a captivating and inviting look."
"Sculpted lines emphasise the front and rear wings with the bird’s eye view showing off the car’s hourglass figure."
