Auto Car | 2006 Peugeot 908 RC Concept | When Peugeot launched their upgraded version of the previous years 908 concept car, aptly titled the 2006 Peugeot 908 RC Concept they backed up the launch at the Paris Motor Show with the almost Star Trek like slogan “To explore and test new ideas in an attempt to create the ultimate solution” They went on to explain that their ides were driven by know-how and passion and by combining them with typical French imagination, they would go on to create a unique vehicle in the 908RC.
It has to be noted that the name for the 908RC comes from its engine type, but if you put that aside for the time being you can also reflect on the fact that Peugeot’s original thinking was to create a luxury four seater limousine, combining levels of style and luxury that would provide an incomparable driving sensation. From the moment that the car made its first appearance, it succeeded in capturing the imagination of all those who feasted there eyes on it, and have had the opportunity to do since.
The exterior of the 908RC is almost excessively low lying accentuated by tapered design of the car’s front, and as is the case of with most top of the range French cars; its proportions create a statement of elegance and dynamism combined.
The 908RC was constructed around a combined carbon composites and aluminum honeycomb structure with the rear section based around a self-supporting shell. The shell incorporates am individual sub-frame consisting of a tubular structure on which the engine and suspension rest.

Headlights and sidelights are fashioned form light-emitting diodes (LEDs), with an especially dazzling appearance provided through a special internal finish given to the internal components. All through the car, special attention has been made to the more intricate details of the car’s design, with the minimum use of extruding parts such as door handles which are inset in the highly polished metallic black body frame. Much use is made of chrome and polished aluminum, with this combination being accentuated in the rear of the car more than ever. The car’s exterior and interior design is an undoubted tribute to meticulous perfectionism and attention to the merest details that typifies the Peugeot design school. Final design touches are the large diameter 20 spoke alloy wheels, 20inch diameter at the front and 21 inch at the rear. The wheels are fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 255/35 R20 tyres at the front and 285/30 R21 at the rear.
The Peugeot marque has never been more emphasized than with this car. Followers of the company who viewed the car for the first time drew a comparison to a big cat waiting to pounce on its prey.
The light-colored leather interior covering each of the four individual seats of the 2006 Peugeot 908 RC Concept is futuristic but not too much so. The 908RC Concept features a panoramic windshield and glass roof, covering more than three square meters, the driver and passengers sit very close to the road, in front of the car’s engine. Views are almost uninterrupted, with the front windshield stretching backwards behind the driver and front seat passenger interior space, helping to create a truly exceptional traveling experience.
The best in materials have been utilized to create am in-car ambience that combines luxury and classical car design, where dark oak surrounds meld with, leather trim, together with polished aluminum and chrome.
However, and above all, the 908 RC interior and exterior form a vehicle for the car’s engine. The V12 Peugeot HDi DPFS, which was developed to power the 208’s racing hybrid in 2007. The abbreviation DPFS stand for diesel particulate filter system. Unusually powerful for a diesel engine, with a capacity of 5.5 liters, the HDi DPFS boasts an exceptional torque in excess of 1,200 Nm as well as a maximum power output greater than 515 kW. Exceptionally compact, the engine has been placed in the 908RC in a rear central transverse position, allowing for maximum comfort and performance. Power to the wheels is through a six-speed electronically controlled sequential gearbox that has been adapted specially to handle the 908RC’s exceptionally powerful torque. Suspension on the 908RC is through drop link, double wishbone type suspension, and braking power is provided through four monobloc ceramic carbon composite discs which provide increased thermal efficiency whilst reducing weight.
With the 2006 908 RC Concept, Peugeot pulled out a lot of stops to create a cross between a luxurious touring car and a racing car. Although the car is yet to go into production, it is seen as a forerunner to the more subdued 608.
