Auto Car | 2012 Land Rover Defender EU5 2.2-liter diesel engine | JLR now offers the new EU5 2.2-liter diesel engine for the 2012 Land Rover Defender also. It replaces the old 2.4-unit, and features an advanced DPF system. This diesel particulate filter (DPF), the Defender cleanest car ever made with a combined cycle CO2 emissions of 266g/km and 295g/km for the 90 to 110 and 130 versions. The power numbers are the same as the outgoing engine, 122PS @ 3500 rpm and torque, 360 Nm @ 2000 rpm.
The engine is mated to the same GFT MT 82 six-speed manual transmission as before, so the Defender is still a brilliant off-roader.The lower first gear offers a low crawl to drag on-road and off-road much easier. The low-down torque also helps in-gear acceleration and high sixth gear provides excellent real-world cruising, refinement and fuel economy. Ground gears in both the gearbox and transfer box help to refine the transmission. The new Defender is also better equipped than ever, and comes in a greater variety. It also packs two new options:
Comfort Pack - Air conditioning, CD player with aux input, power windows and remote central locking. The Comfort Pack will cost € 1650.
Off-Road Pack - ABS, heavy duty wheels and MTR tires, towing and under-ride protection bar. The Off-Road Pack will cost € 1500.
