BMW X5 Limo

Auto Car | BMW X5 Limo  | After seeing the first BMW X5 Limo, I can certainly say that I have seen pretty much everything when it comes to bimmers and “innovation”. Why in the world would anyone go to the trouble of building a BMW X5 limousine? Are we getting that desperate for attention or is just a way to get ahead of your competitors that are sporting the Lincoln’s fleet?

I obviously don’t have the answer to this question nor I do I want to have one, but if I were to choose a limo, I will stick to the old school Lincoln Stretch. One of the X5 limos in this photo has an European plate, but the white one, it seems to be available somewhere in the U.S. Btw, look at the gas prices board behind the car, $2.63/gallon. The ol’ good time.

Perhaps the rarest of all the limousines is the BMW X5 limo. Most limousine companies have invested in Hummer limos, but those that have opted for the more exotic range of 4x4 limos have tended to go for the Range Rover limousine or the latest Audi Q7 limo. The BMW X5 limo is typically found in the Midlands or limo hire Leeds, leaving limo hire London wanting. The interior of the BMW X5 limousine is just as glam as the exterior with a superb state of the art sound system, full cocktail bar, flat screen TV,s, DVD players, fibre optics and neon lights.

The BMW X5 limousines is one of the most amazing limos available in the UK. The BMW X5 limo has the best interior than any of the other limos.

It is surprising just how rare these 4x4 limos are when you consider how cool they look. Available in black and silver and equipped with superb 22" chrome rims, sometimes with spinners as well, the BMW X5 limo is certainly a must for a stag night or school prom. The superb stretch limo hire that is the BMW X5 limousine can also be used for corporate events, weddings, birthdays, children's parties and airport transfers. Indeed the BMW X5 limousine looks good whatever the occasion. With any luck many more limousine companies throughout the UK will realise the potential of these superb 4x4 limos and more will become available. However for now those lucky enough to have a BMW X5 limousine available in their area should make the most of their good fortune.

Ferrari 360 Limo– Fastest Limo in the World

Auto Car | Ferrari 360 Limo– Fastest Limo in the World | The 360 Modena Ferrari stretch limo is the only vehicle of its kind in the U.K. It offers all the comfort and luxury you’d associate with a limousine but also incorporates the original Ferrari engine. With top speeds of 180 miles an hour the 400 BHP (break horse power) engine does not disappoint, scream if you wanna go faster!

Step inside the vehicle and you’ll impressed by the sheer quality and opulence of its features. Having recently undergone a makeover this limo now comes in the classic Ferrari colour, hot red. It seats 8 people comfortably in leather trim bucket seats, there is one large flat screen on-board plus several smaller screens set into the head rests. It also has a state of the art sound system and fibre optic disco lighting and to complete the superstar experience, it comes complete with a suited chauffeur.

This here is the world's first Ferrari 360 Modena converted to a gullwing stretch limo. It's 23 feet long, but with 400HP, goes zero to 60mph in about 6 seconds. These mods, and the extra 6 Recaro seats, cost £200k. Sounds like a deal to me. We've got one more photo of the gullwing in full splendor, but Gizmag, who broke the story, has a few more photos.

You may remember Dan and his Ferrari 360 Modena limo from March, when Ferrari had threatened him with legal action if he doesn’t turn in his prancing horse logos along with the ’360 Modena’ badges. Well we guess they failed since Dan’s Ferrari 360 Modena limo has ended up on eBay Motors.

With a top speed of 166mph, this is probably the fastest limo in the world. The eBay page provides more details on the limo including electrically operated 110″ carbon fiber gullwing Doors, 8 Carbon Fibre
race seats ,2 sets of Ferrari rims - one silver and one black.

We also get some more detailed images with a first look at the interior of the famous Ferrari limo. Dan is asking for a ‘Buy it Now’ price of $250,000.

Volkswagen Eos Sport 2.0 TDI

Auto Car | Volkswagen Eos Sport 2.0 TDI | Not so the Volkswagen Eos. It doesn't come on like a convertible at all. If it's not the last word in discretion, then it must be in the final sentence. You could easily see it and think, oh, that's a rather nifty looking VW coupe. Indeed, you could even get in it and still be persuaded of the same notion. In fact, you could probably drive around for a while, perhaps a year or two, and comfortably labour under the misapprehension that the roof above you was as fixed as a South Korean boxing match.

After all, there's a sunroof, if it's light you're after. But if you fully engage the sunroof lever, the Eos's secret is revealed. Yes, in reality it's a five-section folding CSC roof system. A what? Come on, think about it, the answer's obvious: a coupe sunroof cabriolet.

Fold-away hard roofs are hardly a rarity, but they're normally a three-section manoeuvre. This 25-second, five-stage rigmarole is a far more impressive metamorphosis, like a machine out of RoboCop. It doesn't just change the fact of the roof covering, but the very nature of the car. It's like having two separate cars in the same body, a multiple personality with precision engineering. In any case, it'll impress friends, neighbours and small children, and may prove a conversational ice-breaker at dull dinner parties.

As for the part of the car that's not the roof, it's what you'd expect from VW. Well designed, easy to handle, with an excellent diesel engine. It's also sensibly attractive – the dipping nose and slightly psychedelic front lights work like one of Jon Snow's ties, adding a dash of wit to the otherwise circumspect demeanour.

There's a hint of the Golf GTi in the drive, but the Eos is not a high-performance vehicle. The reason for that, of course, is the roof. The weight of the mechanics takes the edge off the acceleration.

On this occasion, though, more style for less speed is a compromise well worth making. And while we're in the business of compromise, practicality has to take a back seat, too. If it can fit in there. Yes, it's a squeeze in the rear, and when it's holding the roof, the boot isn't overflowing with space, either. But then, it's not a people carrier. It's a topless model that's got bottom. And you don't see many of those.

Fifth Gear Volkswagen Caravelle California

Auto Car |  Fifth Gear Volkswagen Caravelle California  | The California camper has been based on the Caravelle MPV and from the outside they look exactly the same. Both are essentially versions of the Transporter Van, with which the vehicle shares its body. It isn't unpleasant looking; its chunky nose and bumper make it one of the more handsome of commercial vehicles. Standard features include body-coloured bumpers, mirrors and side mouldings and 16-inch alloys. Inside though is where it counts and upfront, the California again looks much the same as the Caravelle. As with most Volkswagen vehicles, both benefit from excellent build quality.

The dash layout is very car-like but you need a long arm to reach the floor-mounted handbrake. It's easy to navigate and despite the high van-like driving position there is plenty of adjustment to get the most comfortable position. In the rear however, the California gets a kitchen and sink area where the Caravelle has a further two rows of seats. The California does have a second row bench seat which comes with seatbelts for extra passengers. It also can be pulled forward and folds fully flat for use as a double bed. There is also the rather nifty electrical pop top roof on the California which not only opens up an extra sleeping area, but allows extra space to stand up in the cabin. It also includes a fully working fridge, electric fan heater and gas hob for all your camping needs.

A fold out table provides an eating area, whilst a further table can be found in the sliding door with chairs folded away in a compartment in the boot door. Both the California and Caravelle couldn't be described as tardis-like, as they are pretty large in the first place, but they are still very spacious and practical. Sliding rear doors add to the van-like image but they make sense for city parking. The Caravelle will comfortably seat seven, even on a long journey, and each passenger has a decent amount of leg and elbow room. There's also adequate space for luggage in both models. The California has a rear self in the boot and items can be stored on it or below it, as well as extra luggage space behind the front seats, as rear passengers of the California sit quite a way back in the cabin.

Engines available include two versions of the 2.5-litre TDI, offering 130 and 174bhp while the Caravelle is also available with a faintly ridiculous 235 bhp petrol 3.2-litre V6. The pick of the bunch is the 174bhp TDI engine, coupled with a six-speed manual gearbox, which offers decent economy - for a vehicle this size - as well as decent levels of performance. It will get the California to 62mph in 13 seconds and the Caravelle in 12.2 seconds, whilst managing fuel consumption of 39.2 mpg on the combined cycle for both models. CO2 emissions of 221g/km are to be expected for a vehicle of this type and do at least fall under the all-important 225 g/km barrier. Generally speaking both models do exactly what they need to and are amongst the front-runners if you're in the market for a large MPV or camper van. The only real downside is the fact they will set you back well over £30,000, coupled with high running costs and road tax. There are definitely cheaper options around but, thanks to over 50 years of heritage, the VW twins are the only van-based MPVs or campers that have a degree of street-cred.

The Volkswagen Caddy EcoFuel: Gas Power And Cleaner Emissions

Auto Car | The Volkswagen Caddy EcoFuel: Gas Power And Cleaner Emissions | Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles will have the only compact panel van in the UK to be powered by compressed natural gas (CNG) when the Caddy EcoFuel goes on sale this summer. The larger Caddy Maxi EcoFuel, offering an extra 1.0 m³ of loadspace, will be introduced simultaneously as another practical, alternatively-fuelled choice for green-conscious van operators.

The VW Caddy EcoFuel has been developed as part of Volkswagen’s broad environmental research programme. It went on sale on the Continent in 2006 where 7,500 examples were sold last year.

The greatest environmental benefit of using CNG as a fuel is the dramatic reduction of exhaust gases; for example, compared to the equivalent TDI engine carbon monoxide (CO) emissions are over 50 per cent lower, nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions are 97 per cent lower, and there are zero particulates.

The engine can operate on biomethane, a sustainable fuel that is now becoming commercially available from renewable sources, or CNG, which is the same gas we use for our heating and cooking at home. It also has a 13-litre petrol tank as a reserve, which is automatically and smoothly engaged should the gas supply run out.

Natural gas is a practical alternative fuel that is easy to use, with claims that there are enough natural gas reserves to last 70 to 100 years, compared to a predicted 40 years for oil.

The steel gas tanks do not intrude on the Caddy van’s load volume of 3.2m³ as they are mounted beneath the vehicle. Depending on how the Caddy EcoFuel is driven and the payload carried, the 26 kg capacity of gas offers a range of around 270 miles or, if combined with the petrol reserve, a range of over 350 miles. This is more than adequate for most operators, and ideal for back-to-base fleets that are able to install an on-site CNG refuelling facility. The Caddy Maxi EcoFuel’s larger gas tanks offer a range of 350 miles, plus 80 miles from the petrol tank – making a total of 430 miles.

As you would expect, the VW Caddy EcoFuel is designed and tested to be safe to use. Comprehensive safety systems include extremely strong steel gas tanks which have proved to be heat-resistant and virtually indestructible in extreme testing. In the event of an accident, electro-magnetic valves with triple protection prevent any gas escaping, which provide the same benefit if the vehicle were to be driven off while it is being refuelled.

Volkswagen builds the Caddy EcoFuel models in the same factory as the rest of the Caddy van range and they are sold with the identical three-year/100,000 mile warranty. The vehicle build quality achieved is superior to that of after-market conversions and includes benefits such as the gas filling point being fitted behind the fuel filler flap, plus an electronic fuel gauge display integrated into the dashboard instrument panel of the van.

The innovative engine in the Caddy EcoFuel is a four-cylinder, 2.0-litre petrol unit which has been optimised to efficiently use CNG or petrol. It has CO2 emissions of 157 g/km, over 20 per cent lower than a conventional petrol engine.

It produces 109 PS and 118 lbs ft of torque at 3,500 rpm, with a five-speed manual transmission, and is able to go from a standstill to 62 mph in 13.8 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 105 mph. There is no reduction of performance compared to the nearest equivalent conventionally-fuelled engine in the Caddy range, the 1.9-litre TDI PD, which delivers 104PS, 184 lbs ft of torque at 1,900 rpm, a 0-62 mph time of 13.3 seconds and top speed of 103 mph.

Volkswagen Beetle Convertible

Auto Car | Volkswagen Beetle Convertible  | Volkswagen has completed the New Beetle family with the launch of an iconic convertible that recalls the classic drop-top Bugs, complete with its thick, folded-top bustle and huggable personality.

With the top up, the car maintains the hardtop’s distinct semi-circle profile. The arching shape preserves generous headroom, lending a spacious feel uncommon in convertibles. Sharing materials with the Audi A4 Cabriolet, the three-layer headliner has an upscale look and contributes to the low wind noise at speed.

The optional power top on our test models lived up to the VW boast of raising or lowering in 13 seconds. The efficient transformation begins with a single, manual release at the windshield header center and is executed with a power button located near the parking brake. The power windows lower slightly to prevent binding, and the cloth top folds onto the rear wheel arches like an overstuffed garment bag. We’re told its shape acts as a functional spoiler; we found it limited rearward visibility and compromised the typical, panoramic views offered by convertibles. For the New Beetle, this carries a nostalgic charm and seems a natural resolution to an engineering challenge, but it would not be so easily forgiven on any other vehicle.

Relatively quiet on the highway, our test cars had minor wind noise at the A-pillar with the top up, but this was handily neutralized by the standard 10-speaker stereo with two subwoofers. With the top down, the optional wind blocker fitted behind the front bucket seats significantly reduced buffeting, but it does limit the usefulness of the rear seat.

Tipping the scales at 350 pounds heavier than the coupe, due to the top and structural reinforcement, the convertible offers modest performance with the base 2.0-liter/115-horse I-4. (Volkswagen claims an 11.4 second 0-60 mph time.) The familiar engine has been enhanced for the convertible, with two balance shafts to reduce vibration and a twin-path intake manifold to broaden the torque band. We noted that the five-speed manual shifter and clutch action seem smoother and more precise than on previous New Beetles. The available six-speed Tiptronic automatic ($1175) makes the most of the 2.0L’s power with a sport mode that does invigorate the Beetle while earning respectable fuel economy. A 1.8-liter/150-horsepower turbocharged engine will be offered summer 2003.

Proud of its Woodstock roots, Volkswagen adds three 1960s-inspired pastel colors for the convertible: Harvest Moon, Mellow Yellow, and Aquarius Blue. Not to worry, more traditional colors are also avaliable. The top is initially offered in black, with gray and cream joining the palette later in the model year.

Pricing starts at $20,450 for the base GL model, with the turbocharged GLS expected to be $24,100. Offered at a palatable base price, this flower-powered convertible offers premium features, impressive overall finish, and high fun quotient.

2010 Chevrolet Camaro Coupe

Auto Car | 2010 Chevrolet Camaro Coupe | The Chevrolet Camaro re-entered the market as a 2010 model after an eight-year hiatus, with much fanfare. Now, for the latest model year Chevrolet has revised its power figures, upping the official ratings for its base Camaro, while adding new options as well.

The Camaro is available in LS, LT and SS guise. The LS and LT models come with a 3.6-liter V6 -- mated to either a six-speed automatic or manual transmission -- and produce an uprated 312 horsepower and 278 lb-ft of torque.

Despite having slightly more power than the V6 versions of the Ford Mustang, the V6-powered Camaros return slightly lower fuel economy with 29 mpg on the highway.

Other changes for the latest model year include the availability the Synergy Green exterior color on any Camaro model -- for $395 -- and the addition of a Head-Up Display system to the Camaro's option list.

Camaro's entertainment systems include a single-CD radio with six speakers that is standard on LS and LT V6 models. A premium, 245-watt Boston Acoustics nine-speaker audio system can be ordered on the 1LT model. XM Satellite Radio is standard on all models, along with power door locks and an express up and down feature on the driver and passenger windows.

The Camaro features deep, recessed gauges, located in square housings outlined in chrome, giving a nod to the classic Camaro. The instrument panel gauges include both speedometer and engine rpm, with a driver information center located between the large gauges, with its readouts and features capable of being controlled via a stalk on the steering column. There is also an optional, console-mounted gauge package includes oil pressure, oil temperature, volts and transmission fluid temperature.

Both the LS and LT models ride on General Motor's FE2 suspension, featuring an independent rear suspension. It's a 4.5-link system that includes a unique, L-shaped upper control arm that attaches to the knuckle at one end and incorporates a ride bushing in the rear. An RS appearance package is available on LT model, and includes HID headlamps with an integrated halo ring feature, spoiler, specific tail lamps and 20-inch wheels.

With four-wheel independent and StabiliTrak stability control standard, the Camaro tips the scales at about 3,700 pounds, but is said to have a near ideal 52/48 weight distribution.

The Camaro features a myriad of safety features, including: Driver and front passenger dual-stage air bags, driver and front passenger seat-mounted thorax side-impact air bags, head curtain side-impact air bags for front- and rear-seat occupants, front-seat safety belt load limiters and pretensioners and a front passenger detection system that senses children and small-stature adults, and suppresses air bag deployment when appropriate.

Overall, the body shape is very similar to the Camaro Concept. GM added a B-pillar to the Camaro's body structure for added strength. Otherwise, the car is virtually unchanged from the concept as GM has promised.

The Camaro's base engine is a 3.6 liter V6 that delivers a healthy 304 horsepower, 96 more than a Mustang V6 and only 15 less than a Mustang V8. Thanks to direct fuel injection, it delivers respectable fuel economy on 87-octane gas. The SS gets a Corvette-sourced 6.2 liter V8 good for 426 hp -- one more than the Challenger SRT8 -- with the manual trans, but only 400 with the automatic. The manual's clutch is difficult to modulate and the shifter is sized for people with Hulk hands, but the automatic is top notch, with a Sport mode that always knows which gear to pick and does so with firm, solid shifts, just like an old-time muscle car.

Personally, I like both engines. The V6 delivers lots of punch with reasonable decorum and the V8 makes marvelous noises, though if you opt for the stick-shift you have to rev it up to 3 or 4 grand before it really starts to haul the mail.

What about handling? The Camaro certainly grips the road well, but it goes through the corners with a slightly disconnected feel, as if the chassis isn't 100% fluent in whatever language the steering wheel is speaking. V8 models have a stiffer suspension (plus huge brakes) and drive a bit better, and both versions ride comfortably. But the Camaro's width -- exaggerated by the slit-shaped windshield and broad hood -- is intimidating on narrow roads. Chevy wants the Camaro to take on proper sports cars like the Nissan 370Z, and while the Camaro delivers a 426 hp V8 for about the same price ($30,995) as the Z's 330 hp V6, there's more to a sports car than power. The Camaro just isn't in the same league

2011 Lexus LF-A

Auto Car | 2011 Lexus LF-A | The 2011 Lexus LF-A — or maybe it's the 2010, or even 2012, depending on reports — supercar's been shot by the quick to the snap spy photographers at KGP. The speedy little spy shooters caught the supercar-to-be as it appeared to be getting ready to hit the Nürburgring. They're expecting hot laps won't be far behind, but we're wondering what's taking the super number one best awesome automaker from the land of the rising sun from gettin' 'er done with their first entry into the world of super car performance. It's been like, what, almost three years already since the Lexus LF-A first started hitting the auto show circuit? And in that time we've seen more versions of the LF-A concept than we're able to keep track of. We distinctly remember at least, you know, like three — one in 2005, a revised LF-A concept at the 2007 Detroit Auto Show and the roadster concept as well as definitive word we'll be seeing our dreams of a sexy luxe cousin to the son of Supra come true, plus a price point of around $170K. So, we're still talking about something like a six-year development cycle here, aren't we?

Jeez, and people get all pissy when an automaker takes a couple of years to develop a new muscle car. Anyway, despite the development time, we're still excited to see this new Lexus in showrooms in either a V10 or V8-plus-hybrid flavor. And no, it's not just because we want to play with the retractable wing until it breaks off. Though that does sound like fun. Full spy report from KGP below.

The Lexus LF-A has hit the roads around the 'Ring, and some hot laps can't be far behind. The LF-A's retractable rear wing can be seen lowering in this sequence of shots.

This prototype is obviously still wearing some preproduction lighting, and some details are clearly lacking production-finished trim, but the styling looks basically unchanged form last year's prototype. It appears that Lexus may have finally locked-in the bulk of the LF-A's final design.

In a recent interview, Lexus' Australian chief executive confirmed that the LF-A is still being readied for production, although it may not reach showrooms until 2011. Even if that claim refers to the 2010 calendar year as a 2011 model, that still means a lengthy development course ahead. At that point, the LF-A's gestation will be approaching six years. Such a long development process is almost unheard of in today's automotive industry, although the Hyundai's recent entry into the luxury market with its new Genesis is another recent example. The Genesis showcased many design changes right up to its auto show debut, and the Lexus LF-A has been similarly tweaked over the course of its development.

One can't help but sense a whiff of uncertainty in Lexus' entry into the rarefied supercar realm, but they're certainly going to great lengths to see that its right when it finally reaches the market.
