Auto Car | BMW X1 for young and environmentally-conscious at Indonesia | Riding the green wave, luxury car manufacturer BMW Group launched two new environmentally friendly models, the BMW X1 sDrive20d and BMW X1 sDrive18i, in Jakarta on Thursday. The new range marks the official introduction of the company’s Advanced Diesel Technology in Indonesia.

“The era of old diesel has ended in Indonesia. Today marks the new era of modern premium diesel,” said Ramesh Divyanathan, the president director of BMW Indonesia, during the product launch.
According to the company, the new technology is capable of delivering higher fuel efficiency, lower CO2 emissions and stronger torque at lower speeds.

BMW X1 sDrive20d uses 1.995 liter four-cylinder diesel engine. The six-speed-automatic-transmission car consumes only 6.1 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers with the top speed of 205 kilometers per hour (km/h). It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.3 seconds.

However, the model can only accommodate diesel fuels for advanced technology engine such as Pertamina DEX, Dynamic Diesel from Petronas, Shell Diesel, and Performance from Total, which are available at designated fuel stations.

The company’s corporate communications director Helena Abidin said that the presence of advanced diesel technology would assist the Indonesian government in curbing the country’s emission production.
She was concerned on the false paradigm of the people who still considered diesel engine as inefficient and contributed high amount of pollution to the air.

BMW also introduces the new BMW X1 sDrive18i petrol model to the market. The model is powered by a 1,995 cc four-cylinder gasoline engine. It accelerates from 0 to 100 kilometers in 10.4 seconds with an average fuel consumption of 8.4 liters per 100 kilometers. Its top speed reaches 200 km/h.
BMW’s total sales in 2009 reached 901 units, of which 539 were BMW 3 series cars, 208 were 5 series models, 50 were 7 series models and 63 were BMW X models.
