Chevrolet Volt Concept in 2007

Auto Car | Chevrolet Volt Concept in 2007  | advanced technology vehicles of this century to bring the Chevrolet Volt concept, with its unique design and luxurious car is able to accommodate four-passenger electric vehicle that uses a gas engine to create additional electricity to extend the range. with large capacity vehicles is also able to doze stuff and mountain climbing.

A technological breakthrough required to make this concept a reality is a large lithium-ion battery. This type of electric car, which the technical community calls an 'EV range-extender,' would require a battery pack that weighs nearly 400 pounds (181 kg). Some experts predict that such a battery – or a similar battery – could be production-ready by 2010 to 2012.Jon Lauckner, GM vice president of Global Program Management, said the Volt is uniquely built to accommodate a number of advanced technology propulsion solutions that can give GM a competitive advantage.'Today's vehicles were designed around mechanical propulsion systems that use petroleum as their primary source of fuel.' Lauckner said. Tomorrow's vehicles need to be developed around a new propulsion architecture with electricity in mind. The Volt is the first vehicle designed around GM's E-flex System.

'That's why we are also showing a variant of the Chevrolet Volt with a hydrogen-powered fuel cell, instead of a gasoline engine EV range-extender,' said Lauckner. 'Or, you might have a diesel engine driving the generator to create electricity, using bio-diesel. Finally, an engine using 100-percent ethanol might be factored into the mix. The point is, all of these alternatives are possible with the E-Flex System.'The Volt concept car is built on a modified future architecture, Lauckner said, similar to the one GM uses for current small cars, such as the Chevrolet Cobalt and HHR.According to Larry Burns, GM vice president for research and development and strategic planning, the world's growing demand for energy and its dependence on oil for transportation is the common theme behind today's headlines.

'Whether your concern is energy security, global climate change, natural disasters, the high price of gas, the volatile pricing of a barrel of oil and the effect that unpredictability has on Wall Street – all of these issues point to a need for energy diversity,' said Burns. 'Today, there are more than 800 million cars and trucks in the world. In 15 years, that will grow to 1.1 billion vehicles. We can't continue to be 98-percent dependent on oil to meet our transportation needs. Something has to give. We think the Chevrolet Volt helps bring about the diversity that is needed. If electricity met only 10 percent of the world's transportation needs, the impact would be huge.' While the Volt concept is an electric car with a small turbocharged engine to keep the batteries charged, the edgy sedan's "E-flex" technology provides a template for future fuel cell vehicles. The clever layout showcased here offers the flexibility to bolt any power source into the Volt to keep the battery charged. Very cool. Read our full story below.

Looking at two of Chevy's concepts here at the Detroit show -- retro-gorgeous Camaro and the futuristically menacing Volt -- you'd never know that Chevrolet doesn't have a single styling hit on its hands apart from the Corvette. Strange as it is, it seems that the General's value brand has found its design niche: in aggressive sports cars.Oh wait - despite the twenty-one inch rims, the Volt isn't a sports car. It gets 150 miles per gallon and seats four. 150 mpg? Well, kind of. Keep reading.Other than its drop-dead styling, the coolest thing about the Volt is its powertrain. It starts with a lithium-ion battery that provides the electric motor with a 40-mile range and can be completely charged by plugging it into a 110-volt outlet for six hours.Then, the Volt has a 1.0-liter, three-cylinder turbocharged motor that never powers the wheels directly. As an "EV range-extender", the Volt uses the combustion engine, which runs at a constant speed to maximize efficiency, to generate electricity to power the electric motor and charge the battery when necessary.

Here's the 150 mpg bit: If you have a 60-mile round trip every day to work, 40 of those miles could be dispensed with using only the battery. The remaining 20 miles would be propelled with the gas engine running -- at 50 mpg. The result is that you travel 60 miles on just 0.4 gallons of gas, averaging 150 mpg.That sounds wonderful, but the Volt doesn't actually exist yet. Why? Because it would require a 400-lb lithium-ion battery, and lithium-ion batteries that large aren't ready for production yet.One particularly clever feature about the Volt is its E-Flex System, which is an architecture that's designed to accommodate different types of engines. The three-cylinder installed in this show car can run on gasoline or E85, which is a mixture of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline. But instead, a diesel could be fitted. Even one that runs on bio-diesel. Or a hydrogen-powered fuel cell. Or pretty much anything (except, maybe, a jet engine. That would be hard to fit.) Expect to see different variants of the Volt at future car shows.Way to go, Chevrolet, for making a flexible electric concept vehicle that looks good enough to grab the attention of sports car fans.

Dale Earnhardt Jr Big Red Chevy Silverado 2007

Auto Car | Dale Earnhardt Jr Big Red Chevy Silverado 2007 | After introducing the first generation of trucks in 1930, is now the Chevrolet Silverado (along with its partners GMC, GMC Sierra) released the latest generation of its Chevrolet Silverado truck and GMC Sierra trucks have been essentially the same for the whole of their history. Silverado today is generally advertised as a version of the "low", while the Sierra has more luxury options.

The GMT800 Silverado/Sierra 1500 (light pickup trucks) were released in 1998[citation needed] as 1999 models. The "classic" light-duty GMT400 C/K trucks were continued in production for that first year alongside the new models, and the Heavy-Duty GMT400 pickups (alongside the GMT400 SUVs) were continued through 2000, with the new GMT800 Silverado/Sierra HD (Heavy Duty) introduced in 2001.
Taking cues from Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s “Big Red” Silverado that debuted at SEMA in 2006, the ’08 Silverado HD Crew Z71 Big Red demonstrates how that expressive concept’s unique features would look with production-type components. It combines numerous GM Accessories inspired by Earnhardt’s Big Red and features additional custom touches. It also supposes the popular Z71 off-road package on the Silverado 2500HD – a model not offered by the factory. It’s powered by the 6.6L Duramax turbo-diesel V-8 and a six-speed Allison transmission.

Inspired by last year's concept Dale Earnhardt Jr "Big Red" Silverado, this 2008 Chevrolet Silverado HD showcases some one-off appointments in a concept Z71 package. Although the Z71 option is not available on the Silverado 2500HD, there are several aftermarket options that can be added to increase the off-road prowess as well as visual appeal.The four-wheel-drive equipped Silverado HD Z71 is powered by a 6.6L Duramax turbo-diesel engine mated to a bombproof 6-speed Allison transmission. Suspension upgrades include a Rancho lift complete with dual shock hoops up front with Rancho shocks. True to form, this Z71 includes underbody protection with a custom skid plate. The 35-inch BFGoodrich All Terrain tires can handle off-road, while custom 20-inch wheels provide stand-out looks on the street.

A welcome return from the Earnhardt truck last year is the integrated bed rail and light bar combo. This slick setup houses four driving lamps to light the most demanding excursions. Inside the bed is a carpeted bed liner, and trick rail system with dual storage boxes and adjustable tie-down anchors. A matching spare wheel and tire is mounted in the bed. The truck wears the signature "Earnhardt Red" paint color. Up front, billet aluminum grills reside in the paint-matched Z71 grill, while the bumper is accented with silver paint and chrome tow hooks. Perhaps one of the most unique feature are the custom running boards that double as loading ramps. A concept fuel door completes the exterior package.Inside, the seats are covered in ballistic nylon material. Z71 badges adorn the floor mats, sill plates and instrument cluster. A portable DVD player provides entertainment, while a remote start adds convenience.

Major League Baseball Chevrolet Suburban in 2007

Auto Car | Major League Baseball Chevrolet Suburban in 2007 | Chevrolet displays a very stunning design of this year with a different look chevrolet ins are also capable of transporting passengers and cargo than other vehicles in the segment - and 360-degree safety system of occupant protection and crash-avoidance technologies that demonstrate GM's commitment to providing world-class safety. a few years ago, this vehicle is also able to offer a number of features that its security level is new and improved, including available head curtain side air bags and standard StabiliTrak stability control system with rollover mitigation technology new.

'Suburban has a long history of safety innovation,' said Peper. 'The '07 model elevates Suburban's safety reputation with one of the most comprehensive and cohesive systems of standard and available features – all wrapped in a stronger structure that provides comforting assurance.' The '07 Suburban offers security in the form of a 360-degree perimeter safety system of occupant protection and crash avoidance technologies. New features include roof-mounted head curtain side air bags with rollover protection for all seating rows and front-seat safety belt pretensioners that are linked to the vehicle's sensing system to provide segment-exclusive deployment in rear-end crashes. These features are integrated into a stronger vehicle structure that is also designed for improved compatibility with other vehicles. The roof-mounted head curtain air bags include design features that provide increased rollover protection and occupant containment. Sensors located at the front of the vehicle, in the side doors, and within the occupant compartment provide increased and more immediate crash detection. The vehicle's sensing system provides segment-exclusive capability to deploy front seat safety belt pretensioners during certain rear-end collisions, enhancing the belt system's ability to hold the occupants firmly in place.

The roof-mounted head curtain side air bag system incorporates one of the segment's first rollover indication sensors, which is located on the vehicle's center tunnel in the occupant compartment. The sensor monitors the vehicle's accelerations and roll rate. If these signals indicate an impending rollover, the roof-mounted head curtain side air bags deploy to provide an extra measure of occupant protection and containment. These rollover-capable head curtain side air bags stay inflated longer than air bags developed only for side impacts because rollover incidents can last longer. The deployment duration and other design features of the rollover-capable air bags combine to provide increased occupant protection and the ability to help keep occupants inside the vehicle.Crash avoidance is bolstered through enhanced design and driver control dynamics, such as wider front and rear tracks, as well as more responsive suspensions – including a new coil-over-shock front suspension design and new rack-and-pinion steering. The vehicles are built on a stronger and stiffer, fully-boxed frame that contributes to enhanced crash energy management. The front frame section has been designed to optimize crush progression, resulting in improved energy absorption efficiency. The improved crush performance, enabled by hydroformed frame rails and efficient chassis component packaging, also comprehends design provisions for improved vehicle-to-vehicle compatibility in the event of a frontal impact with a smaller vehicle.

All models come with the Generation 6 OnStar system (with a one-year Safe and Sound service plan). The system includes the General Motors Advanced Automatic Crash Notification (AACN) system, making crash data available to emergency services to potentially dispatch the appropriate life-saving personnel and equipment to crash scenes faster. If the vehicle is in a crash that activates an air bag, the OnStar system automatically notifies an OnStar Advisor, who will check on the occupants or summon emergency help if necessary. OnStar also can assist authorities in locating a vehicle if it is reported stolen (ability to locate stolen vehicles varies with conditions). Suburban is built on GM's new full-size SUV platform, which incorporates features such as a new, fully boxed frame, coil-over-shock front suspension, rack-and-pinion steering and an all-new, premium interior system that bolster the vehicle's comfort, quality and capability. Wider front and rear tracks enhance handling and lower the center of gravity for a more confident road feel.Extensive attention to detail was paid by Suburban's engineers to ensure a quiet driving experience. It centers on a new, stiffer frame, which reduces vibrations transmitted to the passenger cabin. The strength and accuracy of the fully-boxed frame also enable more precise mounting and tuning of chassis and suspension components, which also help reduce vibration. Even the tires on the large, 17-inch standard and 20-inch available wheels were designed to reduce noise.

Chevrolet Camaro Dale Earnhardt Jr in 2008

Auto Car | Chevrolet Camaro Dale Earnhardt Jr in 2008 | with a stunning concept vehicle was again present in front of us all. As for the concept which is owned Chevrolet introduced a quartet of stunning concept is based on the all-new, 2010 Camaro at SEMA Show 2008. each concept in the show represent different things like the new Camaro styling performance and personalization possibilities, from no-holds-banned high performance for the carefully crafted, street-savvy to adjust.

'The new Camaro is a 21st century sports car for the young and young at heart,' said Ed Peper, GM North America vice president, Chevrolet. 'Wherever your automotive passion lies, the Camaro complements it with world-class design and an exciting driving experience. The concepts unveiled at SEMA accentuate those qualities and trigger the imaginations of countless enthusiasts.'In addition to the concept and classic Camaros, a production 2010 model showed off the range of appearance, performance and convenience accessories that will be available from Chevrolet when the car hits dealerships early next year. The accessories allow customers to personalize their vehicle with genuine Chevy components that are designed, tested and warranted to the same standards as the Camaro itself.

As for the Camaro concepts, they show the extreme possibilities of what the new sports car can offer. NASCAR star Dale Jr. is fan of vintage Camaros – he cruises around in a Pro Touring-style '72 Camaro powered by a GM Performance Parts LS crate engine – and the heritage-inspired design of the 2010 Camaro appeals to him like a checkered flag at Daytona. His vision for the car was channeled to GM's designers and crafted in a multi-color combination of style, capability and comfort. They started with a new Camaro SS that uses the standard 6.2L V-8, but modified to use E85. Taking advantage of E85's favorable octane rating, the engine was calibrated to deliver a few extra horsepower, with the exhaust exiting through GM Performance Parts' new headers. It's backed by the SS's available six-speed manual transmission and GM Accessories' short-throw Hurst shifter. Additional performance enhancements include a Brembo brake package and a lowered ride height, giving Dale Jr.'s Camaro a sleeker look to match its road-hugging capability.

A custom gray-over-white paint scheme blends the high-performance drivetrain with serious style. It is accented with an orange stripe separating the gray and white sections. Also generating attention on the exterior is a set of 21-inch, five-spoke wheels inspired by the Camaro Convertible Concept. They feature dark-painted center sections on the spokes that complement the body's gray color. The wheels are wrapped in Pirelli P-Zero ZR-rated performance tires.

Chevrolet Camaro LS7 Concept in 2008

Auto Car | Chevrolet Camaro LS7 Concept in 2008 | stunning concept vehicles introduced by these Each concept represents a different interpretation, the new Camaro styling performance and personalization possibilities, from no-holds-banned high performance for the carefully crafted, street-savvy to adjust. The Camaro concept, they showed extreme possibilities of what a new sports car can offer. See below for highlights on all four vehicles.

Camaro LS7 Concept: Designed to highlight the capability of the new Camaro as a weekend bracket warrior, the Camaro LS7 Concept combines the power of a GM Performance Parts' LS7 crate engine and targeted bolt-on upgrades to deliver the wheels-up spirit of the legendary COPO Camaros.Made famous by Chevy dealers like Don Yenko and Fred Gibb in the late 1960s, the COPO cars were ordered for one thing: drag racing. They were quickly outfitted after delivery with the requisite tires, safety equipment and other accessories necessary for competition in popular Stock-class drag racing series.The LS7 Concept honors the COPO ethos with features such as drag strip-ready rubber on the rear wheels – and unlike many of the stripped-down racers from 40 years ago, this strip-ready competitor serves double duty as both a racecar and a daily driver.The LS7 crate engine (part number 17802397) uses a high-performance replacement camshaft from GM Performance Parts (part number 12480033) to help it produce approximately 550 horsepower. Complementing upgrades include GM Performance Parts-developed headers and air intake system that will be offered at the Camaro's launch in early 2009. The LS7 also is modified with a wet-sump oiling system; the production engine features a dry-sump system that requires an external oil tank.Backing the LS7 engine is a production Tremec 6060 six-speed manual with a GM Performance Parts Hurst shifter. Additional drivetrain details include:

* Brembo four-wheel disc brake package
* Lowered ride height
* Custom 20-inch wheels
* Driveshaft safety loop
* GM Performance Parts exhaust system

The Camaro LS7 concept is painted Victory Red, with matte black accents on the hood and taillamp panel. "LS7" logos are strategically placed and warn those in the know this Camaro means business when the Christmas tree lights count down to green. It's all business on the spartan interior, too, with base trim and few accessories to minimize overall mass for a quicker elapsed time.The Camaro LS7 concept is painted Victory Red, with matte black accents on the hood and taillamp panel. Although the Camaro LS7 Concept is just that – a concept – its duplication by enterprising enthusiasts and racers is enabled by GM Performance Parts' LS7 crate engine package. It delivers a fully assembled, production version of the engine, complete from the intake manifold to oil pan. An oil reservoir for the standard dry sump system and GM Performance Parts' LS7 engine controller (part number 19166567) are all that's necessary to get the engine running in an enthusiast's project vehicle – well, that and a chassis capable of handling more than 500 lb.-ft.

Chevrolet HHR SS in 2008

Auto Car | Chevrolet HHR SS in 2008 | This car has been on the roll as of late with new vehicles like the Saturn Aura, Cadillac CTS, Chevy Malibu and the line of redesigned trucks and SUVs that have been gathering good reviews and customer attention. some of the companies want to include this car in for testing in test drive the new Chevrolet HHR SS to see if they've knocked one out of the park, dirty hit or, ahem, missed the ball completely when changing a little retro-mobile into a Super Sport.

Here's how it works. Put the car into "Competitive Mode" by hitting the stability control button twice. Come to a stop. Floor the throttle. Release the clutch. Next up is the no-lift shift to second. You'll likely never tire of holding the go-pedal to the floor and slamming the shifter into the next gear. Reward yourself by keeping the engine at full power with no loss of boost pressure by no-lift shifting into third and you'll be staring at triple-digits on the speedometer. Hold off the throttle pedal a bit and you'll be able to get near 30 miles per gallon on the highway, according to the EPA.

Keep an eye on the boost gauge, which has been added (seemingly rather hastily) to the driver-side A pillar. Depending on your choice of color, consider the red or our favorite, the silver interior schemes. The FE5 suspension that comes standard in the SS model strikes us as a good balance between the necessary freeway drones we all are forced to contend with and the twisty backroads that we all love to play with. The go-fast crew at GM played around with the settings some, but ended up only dropping the ride height a few millimeters.

We thoroughly enjoyed our track time with the HHR SS at the Bondurant School of High Performance Driving. We flung the little SS around with no mercy and were quite impressed by how rewarding driving the tall wagon proved to be. The limited slip differential was a very welcome addition, and after a few hot laps, the optional Brembo brake package proved that it is indeed worth whatever extra GM decides to charge for it. We had the most fun with the stability control left in "Competitive Mode". According the the GM people, the HHR SS holds the lap record for its class at the Nürburgring. We doubt that we set any records at Bondurant's track, but we had fun trying.Of course, all is not perfect with the HHR SS. We wish that GM could have offered more than four forward ratios in the automatic model. Again, we stress that we highly recommend opting for the 5-speed stick. Speaking of that tranny, Chevy assured us that it tried using a six cog unit but found that the car was actually slower with it. Whatever the case, five forward gears was enough for us anyway. Other gripes include the lack of an available navigation system despite there being an excellent place for it at the top of the dash. And even though it's a high-roof, this tester's hair brushed the ceiling on sunroof-equipped models.

All of those criticisms miss the fact that for $22,995, the General has made a pretty darn good performance bargain with a giant boot to match. Launch control works well, and frankly we are a bit surprised that the feature, along with no-lift shifting, made it into production despite all of the people who could have axed it. In conclusion, the car performs as you'd expect an SS to perform. If you just can't live with the HHR's style, the Cobalt SS will soon be offered with the same engine and transmission package, including the launch control and magic shifting. Even better: wait a few months for the SS Panel to hit the dealers showroom. Trust us: you could so rock the Panel.
